This Thick-tailed gecko Underwoodisaurus milii was found during hand searches in spinifex in western NSW. We enjoyed his company during this early morning photo shoot. This species is reasonably common, in particular, through the granite outcrops of the great dividing range. Click on ‘View Larger” for better viewing.

I think much of the east coast was treated to a superb sunrise this morning 31/03/2008. This was the sunrise on Tathra Beach about 6.50am, just across the road from our place.

I took this photo while having dinner on the banks of Lake Conjola, on the NSW South Coast. The lorikeets were very cheeky! / /

Colombo Creek is in the eastern Riverina region of Southern NSW. This section is south of Morundah between Naranderra and Urana and is lined with River Red Gum Eucalyptus camaldulensis.

The Western Blue tongue lizard Tiliqua occipitalis is listed as a threatened species due to the substantial loss of mallee habitat across its range in inland, southern Australia. It took three weeks, endless hours of searching by foot and car, to find this one animal! In the end, we found a small number of these animals, so it hoped they are secure in this location for the time being! Due to its rarity, I will only say that it was photographed ‘somewhere’ in arid western NSW, AU. For better viewing, click on ‘view larger’

I found these flowering orchids while enjoying a morning stroll in the Lilli Pilli Common, just south of Batemans Bay on the NSW Far South Coast in January 2008. The Tartan Tongue Orchid Cryptostylis erecta usually grows in dry sclerophyll forests and heath often on sandy soil and usually within a few kilometres of the coastline.

This walk runs through the Melalueca forest Melaleuca armillaris between Tathra and Wallagoot, within Bournda National Park, NSW Far South Coast, AU. Musk Lorikeets Glossopsitta concinna are widespread across south-eastern Australia and are found within forests and woodlands dominated by eucalypts. They are often not seen as they live up in the canopy, rarely coming down to eye level. However, they are known to ‘raid’ suburban parks and gardens. These ‘comedians’ were photographed in captivity where they were tempted down to the camera with some sweet apple. For better viewing click on ‘view larger’.
