the “Je suis” paintings: first the outline is stitched onto the canvas, then I stretch the canvas and paint…this background is gold pigment in Japanese size, with Gold Leaf / then i hand bead a lot of the patterning onto the canvas. The hair is made from wools with beading etc.Shoes are all hand beaded. They’re very tactile, 3D and lluscious.
this was one of my first mermaids…....
i painted 2 of these girls after a visit to Japan where we just loved the street theatre of the Harajuku district, where everyone dresses in the most amazing outifts, really creative and no-one blinks and eye or stares or considers anything unusual. My daughters and I love the whole attitude of expressing yourself thru your appearance and if people don’t like it….they don’t have to look!
the balcony of a friend’s house on Forresters beach, mid NSW. Big wind tortured gnarly tea trees in the foreground against the aqua water and the day we were there loads of huge tankers on the horizon waiting to get into Newcastle Harbour. They’d been out there for weeks due to some industrial problems. / I’ve deliberately kept this as simple as possible and used hues of browns i don’‘t usually use. I love the serenity and calmness of this painting. It’s big, 168×102cms. / Mixed media, collage and the tassling on chairs all stitched thru canvas. The sea glass is tied with string and glued onto the big poles, hanging on a rusted nail on each one.
this is a painting from 1998 when we travelled to the Amalfi Coast. This was from Ravello’s Castle above the town of Amalfi. I painted many works from Positano.
This was a commission work I did many years ago for a commercial client
large canvas, 185×103cm, mixed media painting. this is a beautiful garden up on the hill overlooking Palm Beach and the Pittwater. It has tables and chairs with a bible in a tupperware box always there to read if wanted. Many people visit and love this tranquil little haven with magnificent views.
This is a painting on canvas 107×84cm. i’ve painted it specifically for my 2008 calendar cover.
