This Red Dzao woman from Sapa is the mother of our lovely young guide Thuy May. She sold us some of her handicraft work. Red Dzao women, after marriage, shave their eyebrows. The larger the red head-dress, the wealthier the woman. / More photos of Vietnam

A Flower Hmong lady at the huge and exotic weekly market at Bac Ha – Northern Vietnam. The Flower Hmong are so named because of the vivid and intricately woven traditional dress.

Our lovely guide Thuy May pointed out this stall selling the clothing of the Flower Hmong people of North Vietnam. By a lucky coincidence, this woman appeared in my photo just as I pressed the shutter. I love the way she is framed by the skirts. / Bac Ha Market was a highlight for us and would thoroughly recommend both our guide and the tour. It was brilliant. More photos of Vietnam
