Looking towards Santa Maria della Salute at dusk
What an amazing building…...I would like to return when all the cranes and scaffolding are removed and I can take a more wide angled photograph :-) This baroque church was built in thanksgiving for deliverance of the city from the plague of 1630. It took 57 years to build and was completed in 1687 and still looks great today. One of my very favourites of Venice. Best when ENLARGED
Walking the back streets of Venice towards Santa Maria della Salute. Like Paris, a romantic old place :-) Had a go at trying to add some texture to the picture but it only really shows this off when blown up! ENLARGE FOR THE BEST VIEW
The domes of this wonderful building rise from behind some of Venice’s famous canal front homes. Taken from the Ponte dell’Accademia. Completed in 1681, this baroque church houses paintings by Tintoretto and Titian, as well as a valuable Byzantine icon.
Interior of the Santa Maria della Salute, consecrated in 1867 – a great monument of the Venetian Baroque

For the last few weeks, despite my good intentions, I’ve either been sick or so busy I just haven’t had time to get onto RB, so imagine my surprise when I stole a few minutes this morning to take a peek and found I had sold a greeting card of my image of the Basilica di Santa Maria della Salute in Venice! My sincere thanks to jaggernaut2000 for buying it! This is my first ever sale so I am completely rapt! This is what it’s all about. There’s nothing so satisfying as when someone likes your work enough to pay money for it! Wow!
I think this is the church of Santa Maria della salute. In moving home I have destroyed my notes. Taken with a Pentax Z1p and Pentax 28 mm shift lens on Ektar 1000 film.
A city of contrasts; ancient buildings, gondolas and modern cruise liners! This was taken from the Ponte dell’ Accademia, looking towards the mouth of the Grand Canal. / The beautiful domed baroque church on the right is Santa Maria della Salute, built to celebrate the deliverance of the city from the plague of 1630. The architect and builder was Baldassare Longhena, although the project was not completed until 1687, five years after his death. Nikon D80 / NIkkor 18-200mm DX VR lens
Late afternoon on the Grand Canal, with the beautiful church of Santa Maria della Salute in the background. Wherever you go in Venice, the Gondoliers are always ready for a photo! Nikon D80 / Nikkor 10-200mm DX VR lens

Gondolas on the Grand Canal with the Sante Maria della Salute church in Venice, Italy.
Unlike candles on a birthday cake, ....these shining, brilliant candles continue to burn bright long after their silent longings…
Putting into words my pilgrimage through a crowded, sweltering Venice last August… destination, Santa Maria Della Salute Church… and enlightenment on so many levels.
