  • Queen Molunair comes from a land unkown she is very mysterious, it is said that she can look into your mind and twist your very soul. Once on a cool Autumn night while the Carnival Of Fright was in Bay Ridge a local farmer made fun of her, said she was a fake. The man is now in the Bay Ridge Sanitarium where he has been seen clawing and tearing shreds of skin off his face and eating it. So when you stand in front of her at the Carnival Of Fright do you dare look into to her eyes? Do You?? This is the third character in Freaky Frogster’s Carnival Of Fright series. • Numbered patient doors at Norwich State Hospital. Each door leads to a small room large enough for a bed and maybe a chair and nightstand (if staff deemed you safe enough to enjoy such luxuries). —-—-— / For more check out Polarity Photo / -—-—— 100+ Views as of 10.06.08. Thank you everyone!

  • Two chairs soak up gray light in two patient day rooms on a dreary day at Norwich State Hospital. When the hospital was at its peak capacity, these rooms would have been packed with beds. Beds would have lined each wall and in some rooms there would be up to two rows in the middle of the room as well.

  • Theatre seats decay in the campus theatre at Norwich State Hospital. During the hospital’s usage patients were wheeled through the tunnels which connected all the buildings on campus to the theatre where they say plays, movies and musicals.

Staunton, VA Featured in Abandoned Dark Creepy Group – December 2008 Such A Dark History: / Between the late 1700s and the 1970s, Virginia had a practice of institutionalizing handicapped populations that were inadequately served in Virginia localities. The commonwealth was an early state providing services for the mentally ill. / Dr. DeJarnette had different treatments for middle-class patients with mental disorders. He convinced the Virginia General Assembly by 1932 to construct a semi-private sanitarium for middle-class patients with mental afflictions, including drug addicts, alcoholics and the mentally distressed. DeJarnette Sanitarium opened in 1932. Another building opened in 1938. The facility had golf and tennis courts and 171 beds. / DeJarnette Sanitarium’s mandate changed in 1972 to serve children with severe emotional disorders, and the facility was renamed the DeJarnette Center. A new children’s psychiatric hospital was constructed on the Western State Hospital campus across U.S. 250 from the former DeJarnette Center in 1996. / DeJarnette is only spoken of in hushed tones in Staunton, mainly because its namesake. Western State superintendant Joseph S. DeJarnette, was a public advocate of eugenics and forced sterilizations of the insane. / Sterilization was a part of the dark history here as well.

  • TB Sanitarium

  • This was taken when Warburton, a town to the NE of Melbourne, still had a rail link to Melbourne. It had a timber mill which then sent timber away by rail. It also had a Sanitarium food processing plant which also delivered by rail. The only thing left now is the Sanitarium plant. The timber mill and rail have long since gone, The roads are better but it is still not a pleasure to meet a semitrailer loaded with logs on the road to Melbourne. Thaken with an Exacta camera on Kodachrome film.
