‘Garden of the Gods’ is a wondrous ‘garden’ just out of downtown Colorado Springs. Known as ‘high desert’ Colorado Springs is nestled at the foot of Pike’s Peak, one of the many 14,000 foot mountains in Colorado. What’s bizarre is the fact this landscape spends most of the winter blanketed by snow, yet when the snow melts, much of it is dry and desert like. Colorado Springs is at around 9000 feet, so the air is clear but thin. This particular rock formation is called ‘The Prayer’ for obvious reasons. It’s an amazing place.

The Skies over Kings Canyon are filled with heavy rolling clouds. Looking down towards the head of the canyon and detailing doth the rock formations and vegetation I think that this one of my favourites. Kings Canyon, Watarrka National park / Northern Territory / Australia

Located at Bradleys Head is this roman style sandstone pillar. The sky turned on an amazing display of cloud structures. Then breaking a photography rule, I took some photos into the sun. Since uploading these photos at home I have searched the net for information about this pillar, but alas I have not found out anything of note about it. Nothing about when it was put here, why or even who made it. As you can see from the rocks the high tide is around the base of the pillar. For me the mystery remains, but if anybody knows anything about this pillar please let me know. At the time I did 7 bracketed shots and for this HDR I have used the +/-3 and neutral exposures.
