  • As the sun sets against the Sandia Range outside of Albuquerque New Mexico, the light was just amazing, with the storms coming in and the color changing almost every second, I set up my tripod and had at it…I really wanted an image that conveyed a sense of high drama and showcased the light for what it was, so I sat and thought to myself and said “What if Ansel Adams was shooting this, what would he do??” and wallah, this is how it translated. Thoughts welcomed! / —John

  • New Mexico ….well known for it’s light to photographers and this is one example as to why. During this time of the year, the sun often tends to linger in the western sky and cast some amazing long and warm shadows to the East, and lucky for me, that meant against the Sandia Mountain Range. What really got me is that sheer openess of everything, just huge, gigantic open spaces that one can stop at, set up their gear, and have at it. Anytime, anywhere, and people don’t look at ya like you’re 1/2 insane lol Anyways, thoughts appreciated! / —-John

  • And there I stood in the middle of the New Mexican desert, awaiting the sun to come over the peaks of the Sandia’s….my tripod was so cold I couldn’t even touch it, thankfully I had the car behind me running, where I was returning to for some hand warming every 3 minutes. However, it was worth it! It is just so utterly tranquil, not a sound, lost in the vastness of nature….... Thoughts welcomed!

  • As I drove out to the distant Salina’s Pueblo Mission Ruins in the middle of no where New Mexico (I mean REALLY out there!) , I drove through many Indian Reservations….a few were a tad on the scary side if ya will…however this one where I shot this on was a little larger and signs of life seemed rather optimistic. I saw this scene and just knew I had to stop and take it, a glimpse into the historical past of the Native American people of the Manzano tribe and Nation….. Thoughts welcomed!

  • The Enchanting Snowfall Taken atop the Sandia Mountains outside of Albuquerque, New Mexico, it seemed like a whole other world. Utterly surreal and serene, you heard nothing….absolute tranquility where the air is so fresh, it invigorates you with every breath…so clean. For this shot I really wanted to try and put the viewer in the scene itself, so they could experience what it was like as I stood there clicking the shutter. I zoomed in some to get the details and the in camera crop which I wanted. Tell me what ya think! / -John / ps-Ya gotta love those Minolta blues!

  • A sunrise in the New Mexican desert as the Sandai Mountain Range glows on the horizon

  • New Mexico, “The Land of Enchantment”, lived up to it’s name in this shot that I took looking at the sunrise reflecting against the Sandia Mountains outside of Albuquerque. Processed in HDR, your thoughts are more than welcomed! / More can be seen on my website at jdebordphoto.com / —-John

  • Went up onto the Sandia’s today. I found this tree with these intials carved in them..

  • The 10,000 foot summit of Sandia Peak, in the Cibola National Forest near Albuquerque, New Mexico, is a favorite launching place for hang gliders. This color isolation shot was taken with a Pentax K110 set at f9.5, ISO 200, 1/750.

  • This is a shot of the Sandia Mountain range, with a portion of the City of Albuquerque visible in the folds of the foothills. This shot was taken from NM 550, just outside the town of Bernalillo, NM. This was a “I think I’ll pull over and get this shot” shot. I took several shots but was not thinking at that time of making a pano out of them. It was only just now, as I was considering which of three to upload, that I realized they would composite. Sometimes it’s better to be lucky than good! Pentax K110D, 1/180 @ F13, 70mm, ISO 200.

  • This is a shot of the majestic Sandia Mountains dappled by a patchwork of afternoon light shining through a storm-darkened sky. If you look closely, you will discern a cable car from the Sandia Peak Tramway. To give you an idea of perspective and the size of the boulders in the foreground, the tram car pictured holds 55 people. This shot was taken from the beautiful Elena Gallegos Open Space Picnic Area. Pentax K110D, 1/180 @ F6.7, ISO 200.

  • Swan Island Dahlia in Canby, Oregon. They are about 2 miles from my home and I spend most of my August there. The best part is everyone has dahlia’s and can be photographed very easily. I even have about 7 or 8 varieties in my own yard. Nikon D80 Most Popular / My Favorites / Dahlias / Cards and Collages Please visit my bubblesite.
