  • In the warm summer night, I watched this amazing dry storm cell pass over me from the West. It looked like it was going to cross right over top of me – so I made an escape plan (run like hell!) But in the end, it turned north and head away from me – not before I captured this. • Raasay and the Inner Sound from An Cruinn-leum on the Applecross peninsula, Scotland, as a storm approaches the mainland over an ever more angry sea from Skye and Raasay. The beach had not a soul on it, and few footprints – had it been warmer, I would have gone down to the waterside and taken a second shot of this…....I’m glad I didnt, as it stayed for hours when it arrived. • Fraser is an island of great contrast in such a small sapce, just 123kms long and 22 kms at it’s widest. It is the largest sand island in the world. Immense sand blows and cliffs of coloured sands form the most complete age sequence of coastal dune systems in the world. This image depicts the Wungul Sand Blow, up behind Dundubara camping ground. On the island, there are more than 100 freshwater lakes; tea tree (tannin) stained and clear blue water covering silica rich white sand and flanked by trees to the waters edge. Tropical rainforest are present in pockets, home to rare species and crystal clear, silent creeks. Ramsar listed wetlands thrive, home to rare patterned ferns, mangroves, sea-grass beds and up to 40,000 migratory shorebirds. Rare, vulnerable or endangered species shelter on the island and in its surrounding waters; dugongs, turtles, Illidge’s ant-blue butterflies and eastern curlews. / / Fraser is the ultimate Eco Retreat.
