I shot this at the southern tip of Tasmania around 9pm Daylight savings time. This is a bay called Surveyor’s Bay. Tassie is just so gorgeous. Pristine, untouched (almost) and wonderfully peaceful. Sunset over salt lake remains, Meningie, South Australia. Last light, bold clouds and colour over an old salt pan area between Meningie and Salt Creek.

The worn remains of a fish trap fence reaching out into the Coorong near Salt Creek South Australia. Nature is slowly working away at these remnants reducing many of them to small sticks just standing in place. Canon 400D 18-55 CIR Polarising filter and slight curves in Photoshop CS3.

Rockhopper This species of penguin occurs in subantarctic waters of the western Pacific and Indian Oceans, as well as around the southern coasts of South America. The Southern Rockhopper Penguin is classified as Vulnerable species by the IUCN. Its population has declined by about one-third in the last thirty years. Their common name refers to the fact that unlike many other penguins which negotiate obstacles by sliding on their bellies or by awkward climbing using their flipper-like wings as aid, Rockhoppers will try to jump over boulders and across cracks.

Emu tracks following a fence line through a salt degraded water hole along the Coorong National Park South Australia. My apologies to those who have been visiting lately, I have been away from RB for some time and just starting to catch up on images and comments. This image was uploaded after constant harassment from a fellow bubbler Smarti77 who has always liked it and wanted me to test the waters here on RB. Canon 400D 18 -55 with polarising filter.

Going through some old folders this week and found another image from some time ago when walking in areas way off the River Murray main area. This is where salt has taken over old swamp lands. This area has been in this poor condition for a long time and was nothing to do with current water levels. The stormy clouds on the day threw great colours from the salt. Taken between Renmark and Berri in South Australia. Canon 400D with CIR Polariser on 18-55 kit lens.

Another week in the Riverland and visited the Noora Salt Interception basin three mornings in a row. Joined by Smarti77 and Dave Hartley and it was only on the last morning that the clouds and rising sun created the beautiful soft colours and shapes in this shot. Noora is a back water off the River Murray main where the water is heavily salty and dead gum trees from a distant past stand in silent vigil. This area is located between Berri and Renmark in the Riverland of South Australia. Canon 400D 17-85 lens with Pro Polarising filter. My apologies to those of you who I have not been able to visit lately, time now back home will see me catch up I hope!

The water is a mix of salt and fresh water, creating a very interesting environment for Great Blue Herons. I watched this bird for some time, as it fed on very small fish. I loved the bird against the marsh grasses when it decided to move on. The reflection in the tidal pool was definitely a bonus. The image was captured at Campbell River on Vancouver Island, Canada, using a Nikon D700, Nikkor 600 mm lens and 1.4 teleconverter on a Gitzo monopod.

Going to do a series of the Noosa National Park in Queensland. This place is totally beautiful, and so natural! The park is loaded with hiking tracks, with some unmarked and quite rugged. I can’t think of anything better than being alone and at one with nature in it’s purest form. This rock pool, not easily accessable as it took about 20 minutes of rock jumping and some climbing. I find the best places are where no one can easily access :) Noosa National Park, Noosa Heads, Queensland, Australia. Canon 50D, 10mm. Available Large and best viewed Large!
