The ‘32 ford is stuck in my mind at the moment. It’s such a minimal yet powerful piece of rolling sculpture.
The salty remains in a back water lagoon off the River Murray, Lyrup, South Australia. Access to this area is next to the Ferry at Lyrup. The drought continues to effect this mighty river…. Even though sections are in trouble the main parts of the river continue to survive and the communities along them need our support! There is still plenty of water in the river main and lots of activities to be had. Canon 400D 18 – 55 lens with polarising filter. 3 shot HDR in Photomatix.
Mmmmmmm, salt….. / Bolivia’s Salar de Uyuni – one of the more surreal cycling experiences. There’s about 5000 square kilometers of this stuff. The only regret I have about this trip was that I didn’t try to ride clean across it – a two day effort by all accounts. Maybe next time.

The little boxes cut in the rock in the foreground are old saltpans. This is where the Maltese used to make salt by pouring seawater in the pans, let it dry and gather the salt. It’s a labour intensive way of producing salt. Image was HDR post-processed. Best viewed large. The wind was blowing so hard as the storm approached. My wife was feeding the seagulls and they were just hovering over us. Made for some really neat shots with the Great Salt Lake and the storm in the background.

Backwater reflections again from one of my favourite spots, located between Berri and Renmark at the Noora evaporation area. Tall majestic dead Redgums stand defiant against the morning glows. Canon 400D – 17-85 lens.
