  • A Painting by : Shree & Ami(my wife) / Wonderful Words by : Sally Omar Well this is a moment of a poor family waiting desperately together for their father who has still not returned after whole days work, where one kid is elder sister and standing behind another is younger son waiting and being impatient about their fathers uncertain returning issue back to their house. I specifically wanted to show their love, bond, respect, intimacy, curiocity, closeness, affection, feeling of insecurity, fear and a sense of worriedness, impatience and all sorts of wieard thoughts going on specially in the mind of the mother who desperately wants her husband to return back to home soon as its already too late and as both the children are hungry along with her, all of them waiting for their dad to acompany them at whatever food they have left with. Being mother of two little kids she cannot cry or show her sense of worry infront of kids but still she is infact so upset, so tensed and so curious for finding the reasons about not returning back of her husband till so late which she reflects throught her eyes and facial expressions along with managing her kids by giving them assurance that he will comeback soon. My wife Ami helped me a lot specially for bringing those waiting expressions on the face for which i will always be grateful to her unmatched artistic skills. / All the artwork is given a sepia tone with charcoal to show the feel of my theme desperate – await, which i think goes well with the moment of impatience…enjoy. And lastly a special thanks to Sally who did a marvellous job within no time giving a touch of liveliness to these waiting family with her wonderful words. • The World In My Eyes
    by Sally Green

    US$4.99–US$114.00

  • This work was featured in the groups 1 on 1: The Fine Art of Portraiture and Out of the Past. Grace # 2 of 3 , Charcoal on Mylar film, 30×20” from the “Black Butterfly: The Muse” series. The 3 Graces: Aglaia (radiance) Euphrosyne (joy) Thalia (flowering) It was the poet Hesiod who named the Graces in his Theogony: “Then Eurynome, Ocean’s fair daughter, bore to Zeus the three Graces, all fair-cheeked, Aglaia, Euphrosyne, and shapely Thalia; their alluring eyes glance from under their brows, and from their eyelids drips desire that unstrings the limbs.” From a reference photo by Rolling Stone magazine photographer Baron Wolman, groupie Sally Mann, San Francisco, Nov. 1968. (No relation to the photographer of the same name) Sally married Jefferson Airplane’s Spencer Dryden in 1970. Here is a quote from Baron about the groupies: “As concert promoter Bill Graham has given me all access to any of the concerts he produced, I spent quite a bit of time backstage with the bands, their roadies and their women. What fascinated me were the lengths to which the women, the groupies, went to prepare themselves for their backstage appearances. Because I also wanted an excuse to photograph them, I suggested to Jann they might make an interesting story. He agreed and Rolling Stone Magazine No. 27 became known as “the groupie issue.” It was widely promoted, read and commented upon, even turned into a book.” -Baron Wolman I saw these photos in an old book picked up at a resale shop. I fell in love with the groupies, and Baron was so gracious to allow me to use them for the drawings. The feminine effect of the references are enhanced with the flowers and butterflies. In this case, I decided to draw Sally holding the lilies, as she married soon after the photo was taken. It’s also about peace & love & hippie-ness, baby. :) While the rest of the models I’ve used in the series are in the arts themselves, I was intrigued with the idea of groupies – and their intrigue with rock & roll artists of the late 1960’s. It seems to me they were using their own bodies and persona as an art form to attract their artistic “muses.” I guess you could consider some of the works in my Black Butterfly series “Cover Tunes.” I believe the borrowed references are vital to the series to relate the idea of inspiration, and its relation to talent and celebrity. These “tunes” well deserve a stylish, honorable replay. Many thanks to the talented people who have loaned their vision of the muse to aid me in illustrating my ideas.

  • Spirit Tree
    by Julie Marks

    US$4.66–US$106.40

I was in the affluent suburb in Beverly Hills and noticed adjacent to expensive boutiques, stores and high rent offices was an untended botanical garden. I was not familar with the kinds of plants, but knew many were dying and the contrast of this neglected garden with the opulance of Rodeo Drive and well groomed people was striking. It looked like an alien landscape, but it quickly transcended in my mind to a visual feast of color, texture, light and became an imaginative delight. I hope you enjoy my magical interpretation of what was once a botanical paradise. This is a photo of one of the old trees. sparce with wonderful form highlighted by the enveloping clouds. It was a cold and crisp day and as sundown came upon us as the misty clouds gave way to a spectacular sunset. This particular tree had a spiritual essence with the central figure’s arms raised towards the heavens. Sally Omar’s poetry adds another dimension to the “spirit tree.” She infuses her beautiful and elegant spirit with words to pair this image with her lovely and beautiful writing. They wait very patiently / Arms wrapped around SPIRIT TREE / Somberly they are there / They can’t go anywhere / Souls that are left and cannot retrieve / Anything that they believed / Will they ever be let free / From the beautiful SPIRIT TREE / An Angel with wings of gold / Will come ever so bold / And grab their hands / And bring them to Spiritland / There they will again / Walk with old friends / And find a resting spot / Something they had forgot / When you pass the SPIRIT TREE / Remember none are free / This may be the place where you will go / No one ever knows / And should you be one day be there / You will have to say a prayer / So the Angel will come for you / And fly you to Spiritland too / SPIRIT TREE /

Ratbag Fred was in quite a mood jumping around and did this leap up to Sally’s lips. At least he was a bit gentler than he was with some of his earlier antics… He’s a very little dog and it’s a long way up but he’s been practising and finally got there! Note Frank coming up to check that all is well. My mob always up to something!
