Pendle Witch Country, in the Lancashire Pennines, is an area lying between (but also including) the north western edge of Bronte Country and the Ribble Valley, to the north and north east of which are Bowland, and the south western Yorkshire Dales respectively. The area is dominated by the dark brooding mass of Pendle Hill (shown above) and made famous (nay infamous) for its grim and fiendish association with the “Witches of Pendle”...
New Salem, Illinois Blacksmith demonstration workshop
This man has been working in the gun shop every time I’ve gone in there. I believe his name is Tom. He and another gentleman have retired from their previous jobs and find great joy in recreating old muzzle loaders using the same techniques as the early settlers (see “Reflections of Old Salem”) These rifles are custom made for each individual who purchases them. When I asked where they get the bullets (musket balls) he told me that they make a mold for each gun and the gun owners have to melt down lead and make their own bullets. The guns are created from forms made from the original guns crafted by Timothy Vogler, the original owner of the gunshop in 1766. Old Salem, North Carolina.
The House of Seven Gables made legendary by American writer, Nathaniel Hawthorne. Visiting this place in winter means that you get practically a personal tour (three people plus the guide). The house is really cool and you learn quite a mixed bag. It looked nothing like this in Hawthorne’s time. It was completely remodeled and changed over the years. He wrote about it based on memories of a cousin who lived there. Around a 100 years ago, the house was nearly demolished but saved by woman who used it as a museum to raise money for charity. She had the house remodeled back to a romanticized (i.e. not entirely accurate) version of its colonial appearance.
The town of Salem NC was one of the earlier settlements in the US. Settled by the Moravians as religious community in the early 18th century, it evolved quickly into one of the most successful economic centers of early America. The early settlers prided themselves in their architecture and craftsmanship which is evident in the structures that still survive there today. You can experience the culture as it was in the 1700’s when you meet and talk to people who dress in the style of the time and demonstrate skills of the craftsmen as it was originally performed. This is a window of the original Gunsmith shop of Timothy Vogler. It is described as the most authentic gunsmith shop in America. Skilled gunsmiths continue to produce custom muzzle loading rifles in the shop everyday. I’m not much into guns, but it is an amazing process to watch. The reflection in the windows is of a 250 year old home across the street that is currently a private residence. The distortion in the glass intrigues me because it denotes that it is probably the original panes that were used when the building was first constructed.
WITCHES OF SALEM 1692. A compilation of images memorializing the Witches of Salem. Over 20 different Witches were hung or even pressed to death during the Salem Witch Trials of 1692. This unique twist on a haunted legend will not disappoint. Taken in the summer of 08’ in Salem, Massachusetts WWW.CEMETERYPRINTS.COM Special thanks to Obsidiandawn.com
Salem, Massachusetts is well known for the infamous witch trials of the 1600’s. Centuries later it’s a small city reachable by a quick train ride from downtown Boston. Although heavily touristed, it still manages to hold onto the feel of a quaint New England village. This weathered old home was basking in the sun on a bright winter afternoon. The quality of the light and the textures just really called to me and begged to be recorded.
this is my little boy..he’s 2 years old.and well doesn’t really like to pose for me ..but I got him..lol / took a really close up shot of him..and then cropped it and use the fractalius filter from redfield on him… / what do you think?
I almost passed by this tiny pioneer home because it was buried in trees and weeds. Can you imagine living in a home about 15’ X 25’, raising a family and performing all the household duties required at that time? /

This shot was taken late in the afternoon just down the street from my house. I was hoping to catch the Geese flying in, but they must have got tied up in the Boston traffic, as they showed up after it got dark. This is a series of 5 RAW images which I used some HDR software to try and balance out the sun hitting the tree line and still be able to see the refelection in the pond
SALEM SCREAMING
This pretty little pond is the centerpiece of the small community of Salem, Utah. Seventy years ago they used to have a floating platform that was tied to an anchor on shore. Lights were strung from this old tree out to the platform and around the rail and they would have dances for the teenagers (my parents included) every Saturday night. My mom said that’s where she met my dad, and it was so romantic be able to dance under the stars. My parents always had a faraway look in their eyes when they talked about it.

This is a great 8×10 print of a digital watercolor painting by my husband Joshua Madruga. The painting is of our pet rat Nutmeg! Together we live in Salem, MA along with our 11 pet rats. Our rats have become known throughout the city of Salem as “The Salem Rats”. Joshua’s paintings have been featured throughout the years in many local art shows and he is now focusing some of his artistic talent on broadening our rat inspired artwork. Each print will come packaged in a cello bag with white cardboard backing, and is signed and numbered. This would make a great gift for any rat lover!
