Another one of my husbands airbrush paintings. / 1914 Shamrock IV is the first of four challengers designed and built by Charles E. Nicholson. The unconventional looking yacht is nicknamed “ugly duckling”, after the popular song. / On July 18, under the charge of Captain Turner, Shamrock IV, leaves Portsmouth for the United States under tow by Lipton’s steam yacht, Erin. / On August 7, Colonel Neil, in charge of Erin, receives a message announcing the start of hostilities between Germany and England. He is given an order to sail to the nearest British port, Saint George in Bermuda, where the two boats arrive on August 9. / Shamrock IV reaches New York on August 13, but the America’s Cup is postponed. / To fit the histrical yacht the painting was made to look like an old photograph.
Beaulieu means “beautiful place” in french and it is aptly named. / With its beaches bordered by palm trees, the superb light and / warm temperature, Beaulieu is one of the most delightful seaside / resort in the French Riviera. / Beautiful and colorful boats are anchored in the Bay of Beaulieu.

Looking out from Tynemouth on a stormy September evening. The structure on the right is an out door swimming pool “Victorian Style”. Its no longer in use, and quite often has huge boulder’s washed down from the cliffs above. Tynemouth can be found six miles East of Newcastle upon Tyne,England.
