Joss sticks simply propped up against the wall at the Tam Son Hoi Quan Pagoda in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

Taken in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, it took me a little while to take his photo because of the constant motorbikes that were passing on this street. After I actually took the photo, he got up and did this big wave hello. I was heading towards the War Remnants Museum at this point only to find out that it was closed so a few minutes later I actually passed by him once again. He recognized me right away and again belted out this great big hello and then started pointing me out to the couple of people that had gathered … I can only imagine that he was saying!
The Vietnamese have an uncanny way of being able to tell when it’s about to rain and carry plastic ponchos under the seats of their bikes. As the heavens open, and you’re caught unawares, you can do nothing but stand there, soggy and marvel at them all zooming around, undeterred by the torrential downpour. Taken in Saigon, Vietnam. As featured in the group ‘Street Photography and Photojournalism’ – 10/05/09 This photograph is part of a set of 6 images taken while travelling in Vietnam. These prayer strips covered an entire wall at the Thien Hau Pagoda in the Cholon district of Ho Chi Minh City. What I later found out was that each was handwritten, which I discovered when I saw this young woman sitting in a small alcove with her calligraphy set writing each prayer meticulously on these bright pink strips of paper.
Taken in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam at the Tam Son Hoi Quan Pagoda. I have said it many times, the smallest and most mundane things amuse me so that being said it is truly no surprise that I came home from a few days in Vietnam and had a photo of an electrical plug! I am your sun / Each morning I shall awaken you
a poem written 12 years ago. I have a stack…. made more poigniant by the fact I’m playing the leading role in Miss Saigon which opens next week. Little did I know I’d be singing a song titled, “The Sun and the Moon” 12 years later.
