This woman is a victim of a seemingly never ending war in southern congo. She has suffered sexual violence (rape) so severe it has rendered her incontinent. She now exists purely as a result of a courageous charity called Heal Africa, and indeed her own inner strength and faith. I asked her if I could take her portrait and she stood up (which must have been painful), straightened her back and stared straight down the lens. No stopping to straighten her scarf, no preening, no fear. Just an honesty so raw, so uninhibited and so rare, I caught my breath and thought I’d never breath again. I was totally overpowered by her intensity. After I took the shot and showed it to her she smiled and thanked me. It still gives me a shiver to look at it now. HEAL Africa calendar available now!!! You never saw me when I stood right next to you / I walked on egg shells just to please you / You looked right through my soul, missed all I had to offer / I had no where else to go. So the forest became my place to reflect, hide and be safe / I became one with nature, because she heard my song / She welcomed me, wrapped me in warmth / And told me ” It has been to long”. My son and I found this beautiful butterfly yesterday…...... Such grace and such awesome beauty….......... Life, what a precious thing indeed….......... I want to dedicate this to the awesome group Live, Love, Dream…....... You have each made me so happy! I am so very proud of you all and all that you are accomplishing…....... Such a beautiful group of nearing 1700 people… Its really climbing day by day…..... I had no idea when I dreamed up this group , that it would grow as it has…... YOU MAKE ME SO PROUD ! I am truly humbled by all of the kindness, and truly amazed by all the talent ! As many of you know, I have a new website I am working on …. It is still a crIme scene! The ocean is a crime scene. These parents only want answers. Is this not a parent’s RIGHT!! They will not rest until they have answers! Only answers will bring peace of mind and help others to avoid such REDTAPE in the future. If the waters of DUBROVNIK are too cold maybe they could spend the time chatting casually to the wonderful locals. Less expensive and probably more informative and their english very good! This is something I have always wanted to do…. sleep naked amongst the leaves, deep in a forest, knowing I was safe and protected by the tree spirits and the animals. No harm would come to me, and I would dream deeply of the Earth’s soul. The golden web of light bathing my body would fill me with great peace and joy and when I awoke I would know that I truly and rightfully belong. BEST VIEWED LARGE
