Sunset silhouette of bronze statues of Stallions Rampant at Rymill Coonawarra Winery. The two magnificent bronze stallions rampant, created by the noted sculptor Gabriel Sterk, welcome visitors to the Rymill Coonawarra Winery. Such horses have long been important to the Rymill family, and were an integral part of their business for a number of generations. Coonawarra’s terra rossa soil, with its high calcium content, raised horses with strong bones and powerful constitutions long before it became famous for the excellence of its vineyards and wines. Gabriel Sterk’s life and career have alternated between Europe and Australia. Born in Holland in 1942, he emigrated to Adelaide with his family in 1958, but his developing career and talent soon drew him back to the art treasures of Europe; first of all to Italy, and then to the Royal Academy in Holland. He now lives in France, where he sculpted the original of the stallions rampant in clay, prior to their being cast in bronze at a foundry in Holland, and then shipped to Australia where they now stand proudly before the winery, evoking the past and eliciting the future. “Wisdom doesn’t automatically come with old age. Nothing does – except wrinkles. It’s true, some wines improve with age. But only if the grapes were good in the first place.” / - Abigail Van Buren Rymill Coonawarra Winery . Photographer: Scott Carr / Location: Rymill Park, Eastern Park Lands, Adelaide, South Australia / Photographer’s Website About the Photograph: The Adelaide Park Lands were laid out by Colonel William Light in his plan for the city of Adelaide in 1837. Light recognised the importance of public parks in assisting with the health and recreation of citizens. About the Photographer: Scott had always been quite the happy snapper, but it wasn’t until he purchased his first SLR at the age of 23 that he realised his true passion for photography. Scott has pursued this passion and excelled in his photographic abilities; taking on new challenges whenever the opportunity arises. While his favourite photographic subjects include macro, wildlife, landscapes, and portraiture, Scott also enjoys capturing anything of interest and appeal to his own eyes. / / An active member of the Adelaide Camera Club, Scott is always striving to push himself and improve his photographic skills. He enjoys undertaking new projects and concepts; shooting a diverse range of images, and often experimenting with panoramic and high-dynamic-range (HDR) images.
Artist: Fred Bray / Location: East Parklands, Adelaide, South Australia / Photographer’s Website About the Photograph: Captured on a cold, bleak winter’s day in Adelaide and is a juxtaposed to the cooling and relaxing environment that greets us every Summer. About the Photographer: Fred has been a Member of the Adelaide Camera Club since 1988 and has been active in promoting the education of photographers in their chosen craft since joining the group. The history of the Adelaide Camera Club goes back to 1899 and to the first recorded meeting on the 19th September 1902. The Centenary Exhibition of the Club was celebrated with on 19th September 2002 with a display of images in the historic Adelaide Bank Chamber which was put together by a team lead by Fred Bray showing a range of work from the past century to modern times by Adelaide Camera Club Members. Since leaving a life time career in telecommunications, Fred has been pursuing a photographic career specialising in portraiture and photographic training which has seen much success in Adelaide. As a multi award winner within the photographic associations, Fred is able to pass on his knowledge and skills to the newer photographers and ensure that the information they need is provided in a manner which can be understood. / As an accredited Judge on the competition circuit, valuable knowledge is passed on to all entrants when viewing their work, no matter what level they have achieved. This is the first participation in a commercial exhibition and should be an exciting venture in a new photographic field.
