“The Road To Home” Ya know, sometimes I just sit in amazement when I am shooting and just look, gaze, and take it all in…..if photography has honestly taught me anything, it’s to see better, noticing things you normally wouldn’t even see. Case in point, this shot here. Most people probably just drive on by this place never giving it a second glance, but to me, it was something very special…...so special that I spent about 30 minutes here shooting it. Living in Colorado really has it’s benefits this time of the year…as Autumn sets in and the sun goes south, the light becomes so utterly magical, thanks to our elevation. It becomes so warm and saturated in the morning, that everything seems so alive….so gold. Captured on a rural backroad between Boulder and Lyons, the old road leading to cattle pastures I felt made a very worthy subject, especially considering the colors involved, the light, and the overall composition with the tree. Now, here is a good story….I was out photographing some old buildings on a rustic Norwegian farm one sunny spring morning and my eye caught these old wool long johns flying in the wind on the clothesline. I stopped in my tracks…fascinated by the sight. All I could think of was how they looked like they were dancing with joy – happy to finally be set free out in the fresh spring air. It took me a lot of convincing to talk the elderly farm wife into letting me take this shot. She was horrified at the thought, but graciously accepted my creative eccentricity in the end, shaking her head and mumbling all the while. .....They look like they are on a backdrop, but that is the blue sky…..really!

The Farm is a scenic view of one of the many farms on the rural outskirts of Canberra. Behind the scenes / Often, images are born of hard work, careful planning and a lot of patience. Sometimes though, a wonderful scene will appear by chance. It was late in the day when a storm front came over forming some striking cloud formations over the pale brown landscape. This was shot in Arlington, WA. One of my favorite pics and the most featured, viewed and favorited of my works here on RedBubble. Thank you! / Using Photoshop, I adjusted the levels and saturation to bring out the colors. Three separate images were composited: old barn ruins, rainbow with tree and clouds. Clone stamped out a telephone wire as well. Trying something new, experimenting with my images in the Orton Style. Shot this with my Kodak Easy Share point & shoot camera. Brought it into Photoshop and added layers and different blending options as well as blur and sharpen. Captured 12/13/2008 on a very frigid morning at Cherry Creek State Park, here in Colorado, I froze my damn keester off because I was dense and forgot to bring along my damn jacket! It was an incredible sunrise folks, one which I won’t forget, the colors changed and developed by the minute, going from the cool blues to the warm pinks, reds, and oranges…and I was able to get something in the shots which I had never had been able to before, the lake actually shimmering! In some of the other shots in days to come, you can really see this, and you kind of can here in the bottom left side a tad, an odd occurrence, and one I finally managed to snag! Long exposure, using my Singh-Ray CPL and Marumi ND4, on my Minolta 18-70 DT Lens, I hope ya all like it, let me know what ya think! / —-John !

*Sunflowers and Colorado Sunsets * Revisiting the Sunflower fields I miss so much, a magical place on the eastern plains of Colorado like no where else, a place one day I hope returns. As the front rage of the Colorado Rocky Mountains dances with the setting sun, this scene seemed something out a paradise lost, the kind of thing you only ever read about. On this day when shooting the sunset here, I shot over 400 shots and came back quite a few other times as well. Well worth it I would say! The Delaware Water Gap National Recreation area in northeastern Pennsylvania boasts many beautiful streams and waterfalls. This stream, in the Childs Park Recreation Area above Fulmer Falls happened to catch my eye, captured in full springtime flow. Well this shot did really well over on deviantART so I thought that I would also share with you all here too. (I honestly wasn’t expecting the 1600 odd favorites it received over there, took me by surprise!) Storm clouds fight with the evening sunset over the Colorado Rockies & Longs Peak. Every now and then I like to get a little artistic with my HDR’s and this is one of those, there is no right, no wrongs when it comes to photography and artistic interpretation, and i realize that not everyone likes that, nor this style, that is fine, I respect that, but I also ask the same of you to respect my creativeness, too! 3200 ISO is a brave new world for me. As a self confessed low ISO junkie, one who used Ektar 25 film whenever and wherever he could for many years because I wanted tight grain, the tighter the better, I would pull out all the stops I could to use that amazing ISO 25 film! For sure I’d never gone above ISO 1000 and then only to shoot indoor sporting events. Low ISO was(?) a hang-up for me! But I wanted to try astral photography and high ISO can get you there! However as we all know high ISO leads to increased noise which is something fairly new to me. You can use software and Photoshop plugins but I’ve been considering, one way to control noise would be to minimize or eliminate it by keeping the ISO as low as possible and that’s one way I‘m leaning. So in that regard it looks like a fast 50 prime is in order! It’s fun to be experimenting and learning, eh! Rural northern Boulder County, Colorado Honest to God above, this was utterly amazing….I can’t really find the wards to describe the whole scene to you all but I will try my best. I had to handhold this, along with the other shots to come, my knee is totally kaput so using a tripod was pretty much out of the question, however that isn’t the only reason…as we were shooting last evening, the lightning was all over the place, and well there were times when I wanted to grab it and try, but thought better of it lol Tripods make for great Lightning conductors! lol The clouds were just insane, and I mean really crazy, this storm went severe dropping reports of funnel clouds to the north east of us and hail as well. It passed over our heads, but sure made for some utterly incredible atmospheric shots! So you take that, a Sunflower field the size of a small state, the sunset, a country road, and the foothills and mountains as a backdrop, and friends, you have quite a scene you will NEVER forget!
