Ever get the feeling that you’ve left something behind? This image was sold to a mystery buyer on RB as a small framed print Also sold to another mystery buyer on RB as a matted print and it has also had 2 card sales on RB. It’s been featured on the RB art pages and in the Technical Photography group, which all told makes it my most popular and successful piece so far. So I’d just like to say a BIG thank you to everyone who has contributed to it’s popularity, I’m very grateful to each and ever one of you!

Love the size of the fuselage, just has an amazing shape about it and the Iberia jet has a striking graphic nature… great looking plane, not so good an airline!

So this passed weekend I was taking some photos of this restored B-17G called the Liberty Belle. Do you ever just play around in Photoshop and then REALLY like how the changes affected your image? This is one of those for me. I know it’s TOTALLY over the top and I LOVE it ….... Hope you do as well. Click here to get more detail on this beautiful aircraft

Kimono fashion show on a runway…

As morning breaks, a dramatic sky threatens to flood the ground below with light. Reminiscent of a plane coming in to land.

Capt. John Davis and Bombardier Lt. Carl Thompson are walking passed their bird to meet the rest of the boys for a few beers. Both can faintly hear music and laughter of men spilling from a tent near the end of the runway. Davis looks back into the setting sun, listens to the big radial engines still ticking from an earlier test flight. The distinct smell of burnt oil still lingers in the air. / “God I love that smell” he thinks to himself. / He gazes down upon the puddles of oil underneath the port and starboard engines. / “Hey, does it look like engine one is leaking more than usual?” John asks, turning to Carl who had his half smoked cigarette in the corner of his mouth. / “It’s been leaking more since Frankfurt”, Carl replies. / “Frankfurt? Yeah, I think you’re right”. Davis can still hear the screams of the waistgunner, when the shrapnel tore through the entire port side. / “Poor Sammy, he never had a chance”, Davis says. / Carl didn’t reply, just walked quietly next to John, the setting sun throwing long shadows onto the tarmac, making them both look like giants. / Both men knew that tonight they indeed feel larger than life, because there is no mission tonight.

...I think this is the C17 (corrct me if I’m wrong) from America arriving at the Avalon International Airshow earlier this year. It was an awesome sight ~ flew straight over the heads of the small crowd that had gathered on the side of the road waiting for it

This is the runway at Barra airport. Yes – the planes take off and land on the beach, so the timetables depend on the tide times. http://www.orcadiaimages.co.uk

An old scan of my Dad’s from many years ago at Avalon. HDR’d from one 600dpi scan and then I replaced the sky in Photoshop with what I thought was a more interesting one. Also like it in a Selenium Tone which is one of Lightroom’s presets so I left it as that and did a bit of touching up with the levels etc.

As a huge storm approaches we try to leave the earth behind and to fly above it all. Unfortunately we can only stay above the bad weather for 15 hours as nobody is coming to refuel us. Hopefully we will see a break in the world storm and find an airstrip big enough and then we can return. Hopefully, we’ll know very soon, before the peanuts run out.
