  • This photo was taken at Bagan, Burma (Myanmar) at sunset. The light was filtered through the dust. The color in this photograph has not been enhanced or changed. It was just a magical event.

  • Some amazing ancient carvings can be found amongst the ruins of Angkor Wat in Cambodia. After many centuries of abandonment many ruins have almost been completely taken over by nature. This little carving seemed to be almost accentuated by this process.

  • Ayuthaya was the capital city of Siam. It was referred to as the ‘Venice Of The East’ as it was built upon several small islands at the junction of three rivers. Canals also interconnected most parts of the city. / It was destroyed by invading armies some 225 years back and virtually the entire city was razed. Temples, Buddhas, palaces, all were destroyed and looted. Most of the Buddha images had arms and heads or ears removed. One version of this I have heard is so that the Buddha could neither hear nor respond to the pleas of the people of Siam. / There are still many ruins today and here a monk and a young novice, carrying a plastic toy, walk through the ruins of Wat Chaiwattanaram. / The image has deliberately been digitally altered to give it an effect as if taken by a ‘Lomo’ camera.

  • After a long day of Hiking through the Jungle I came upon an old Temple in the dense forested Jungle that seemed to at least offer a small amount of protection from the beasts that were going to be coming out as it was getting dark, so I cast a magic spell for light and warmth in the clearing in the center of the temple and was meditating when A huge Python Snake slithered into my camp maybe looking at me as food. But fortunately I am a Beast master and why I was asked to join the Scouts to explore on planets and worlds for that very gift, so it didn’t take but a minute to sway the thoughts of this wonderful creature and in turn he agreed to keep watch over me for the night. So after the first day I had now one P)et to help guard and explore on this journey. And over time I am sure she and I will be friends and will be sad when I have to leave this planet as it is very very beautiful and the vistas strike deep into my soul. From the journey logs on DeathTwister’s Saga Created in Poser, Max, XSI, and Vue, no post work

From this temple Hermias of Atarneus, a student of Plato, ruled Assos, the Troad and Lesbos for a period of time, under which the city experienced its greatest prosperity. (Strangely, Hermias was actually the slave of the ruler of Atarneus*.) Under his rule, he encouraged philosophers to move to the city. As part of this, in 348 BC Aristotle came here and married King Hermeias’s niece, Pythia, before leaving to Lesbos three years later in 345 BC. This ‘golden period’ of Assos ended several years later when the Persians arrived, and subsequently tortured Hermias to death. The Persians were driven out by Alexander the Great in 334 BCE. Between 241 and 133 BC, the city was ruled by the Kings of Pergamon. However, in 133 BC, the Pergamons lost control of the city as it was absorbed by the Roman empire. St. Paul also visited the city during his third missionary journey through Asia Minor, which was between 53-57 AD, on his way to Lesbos. From this period onwards, Assos shrunk to a small village, as it has remained ever since. Ruins around Assos continue to be excavated.

Best Viewed Large Temple of Poseidon at Cape Sounion .. about an hour’s drive from Athens, Greece. “The temple of Poseidon was constructed in approx. 440 B.C. It is perched above the sea at a height of almost 60 m. The design of the temple is a typical hexastyle i.e. it had a front portico with 6 columns. / As with all Greek temples, the Poseidon building was rectangular, with a colonnade on all four sides. The total number of original columns was 42: 18 columns still stand today. The columns are of the Doric Order. They were made of locally-quarried white marble. They were 6.10 m (20 ft) high, with a diameter of 1 m (3.1 ft) at the base and 79cm (31 inches) at the top. / At the centre of the temple colonnade would have been the hall of worship (naos), a windowless rectangular room. It would have contained, at one end facing the entrance, the cult image, a colossal, ceiling – height (6m) bronze statue of Poseidon. Probably gold-leafed, it may have resembled a contemporary representation of the god, appropriately found in a shipwreck, shown in the figure above. Poseidon was usually portrayed carrying a trident, the weapon he supposedly used to stir up storms.” ... the above abridged from Wikipedia. I took this image with my little Olympus C5000 zoom in August of 2005. A bit of Photoshop work has taken place … cloning out tourists, adding a new sky and a texture layer among others. Also available without “effects” ... please contact me for more information /

  • I shot this in New York when I was walking down the street. I think it is a Jewish Temple that was being torn down. There is two stain glass windows that have the Star of David so I made the assumption. This is one of the most asked about photos I have in my studio. It has tuns of interesting details and is awesome to study.

  • Villa Borghese, Rome ! Italy ! Villa Borghese is a large landscape garden in the naturalistic English manner in Rome, containing a number of buildings, museums and attractions. It is the second largest public park in Rome (80 hectares or 148 acres) after that of the Villa Doria Pamphili. The gardens were developed for the Villa Borghese Pinciana (“Borghese villa on the Pincian Hill”), built by the architect Flaminio Ponzio, developing sketches by Scipione Borghese, who used it as a villa suburbana, a party villa, at the edge of Rome, and to house his art collection. The gardens as they are now were remade in the early nineteenth century.
