  • Although these kids looked sad when i took the shot, they were actually very happy and excited to have their picture taken. The sadness does however reflect the harsh environment these kids grow up in. / This shot taken in the Tripoli Medina which part of dates back to Roman times. / . / / . / / . / / . / / . / / . /

  • When does it all begin, this spiral towards flame? / A missing shingle and a nail worked loose. / Perhaps a window left open during a summer storm, a broken promise or two. / Hard winters,a cold shoulder, perhaps some bills to pay. / Paint gets thin, smiles wear through. / Toys in the dooryard, all used up. / Meals shared, forgotten and some missed. / Some cancerous cell that eats wood-never cut out, somehow missed. / Wind and words hit hard, like a knife at your back. / Then come the vandals.Tempting you with warmth and kindness. / Only to realize they came to do harm-scatter your belongings, break your window panes.Just there for the thrill-to feed on you. / To take what little you have left. / That feeling. The feeling of a house that’s lived in, cared for.Gone. / The glue that holds it together, the thing you can’t see or name or even know. / But you trust it’s there. The people move on, the glue dissolves. / It all adds up. / Then it all comes down-slowly, one painful board at a time. / “Shoot it now” he said.”We’re gonna burn it down”. / Burn it down. / Burn it all down.

  • a rock with some paint on it… i think this shot was taken on a trip to spain a few years ago..

  • Saltwater Creek Coal Mine ruins…T’was a miserable place back in the mid 1800’s. The bad ass prisoners were sent here to work underground in the cold, wet and filthy conditions. Only to look forward to a cold cell the size of a toilet at the end of the day. In fact, the mine was closed down when a Governess inspected the place and couldn’t believe the atrocious conditions these men lived under…..thanks for any views and comments..

  • As I walked amongst the ruins of Leptis Magna, I kept thinking how amazing it must have been to see it in all its glory! And I wondered if the people of the time took this amazing place for granted as is often the case nowdays with all the wonderful things that nature (and human) has to offer? /

  • One of the first street shots I ever took back in 1964 in the East End of London. This was before Playstations, and probably the only ‘toy’ these kids shared between them was a skipping rope. Old bomb sites still held a fascination though as a form of amusement and exploration, as can be seen here. It was taken using a Yashica Mat 120 film twin lens reflex camera that took me six months to save up for. I used Tri-X B/W film and printed on a hard grade of paper to get the punchy contrast, a characteristic of all my early B/W work. This image was photographed digitally from the original print in my portfolio. © 1964 John Hooton Photography

  • this is the Abbey Chapel which barely survived the devistating fire which demolished Alma College in May of 2008. The rubble on the right side of the photo is just a quarter of a quarer of what’s left of the beautiful Alma College. I did take photos the day that it went up in flames, along with Mike Whitman who took the very recognized photograph Alma College Fire my photo’s i’ve posted on redbubble are as follows: Eerie and Endangered. RIP Alma College / which is a photo i took a month before the fire took over the city. Risen From The Ashes Of Dear Alma / a photo i took of the cleaned up Ampitheatre about a month after the fire. The students who attended the school would have graduation and plays here. Broken Abbey / The twisted metal in the chapel windows after the fire…the heat forced the steel to twist. Goodbye Alma / The day it went up …we were walking to the other side of the property to get different angle photos. i didn’t get there til the fire was mostly out, but i did get this picture, and this photograph says ALOT to me, and to our community here in St. Thomas. so much history….gone…this photo has a bit of history on the school if you care to read.

  • Your dark secrets always seem to make me want more. So I find myself lost in this place with no lights, fallowed by strange sounds. Yet this is comforting.

  • From certain viewpoints the old cement works in Geelong looks like a bomb site (or what I imagine a bomb site looks like). The stormy sky just added to the feeling of destruction. / HDR created with tone mapping and tonal adjustment. / Nikon D300 with 12 – 24 mm wide angle lens.
