Another update of the site has just gone out today, the new stuff includes: RSS/Atom Feeds – One of the most requested features, you can now subscribe to journals, and portfolios … this will appear in more places across the site over time. Just click the little subscribe links and add the feeds to your favourite reader. Colour T-Shirt previews – Now you can see the colours before you buy. Colour Profiling – We are more profile aware, images should look ‘more right’ today for all new uploads. Next and Prev links – Not new, but we have moved them to stay in the same place – Just nice ! More goodies on the way soon ! Update: We have also removed logos from the laminated and mounted prints at the communitys urging. Keep telling us what you want folks and we will do our best !

[HOW TO] RSS is here YEAH!!!!

Well, some of you may have noticed that Red Bubble has introduced RSS Feeds to our JE’s and our Portfolios :) VBS WELL DONE RED BUBBLE!!! I can’t wait for feeds on comments and a feed on our Activity Monitor. For those of you unfamiliar with Feeds … You will notice when you look at someones Portfolio or JE’s now, you will see the little Feed symbol and the words subscribe to the left of it. What this means is that if you have a Feed Reader (I will mention those a little later) you can subscribe to a feed of that page and will be notified of any updates on that page at set intervals :) So now, rather than having to manually check to see if people have updated their Journal … or added new works …. you can have all the new stuff FEED right to you automatically :) Okay … my Feed Reader of Choice is called OMEA but I have a fairly fast system with 2Gig of Ram, so for me it’s not a problem to run. It’s a very big program and takes up a LOT of resources. Anyway … I thought I would try another Lighter Feed reader from a LIST of Ten. I am currently testing RSS Bandit and as far as I can tell so far it’s a great program for keeping up in RB :) I have added the Forums .. and also added Whirli to test …. all works really well :) :) Thanks Whirli ;) You can even send comments from within the program (on Journal Entries or works) so there is no need to flip back and forth from RB in your browser and the Feed Reader :) I haven’t looked at all the options in there yet, but so far it’s doing a good job of basically keeping me informed. It will take a while to add and categorize everyone … but once done .. adding new people will be easy and I will no longer need to manually check in RB for peoples updates etc :) I’ll leave this JE now …. if anyone is interested in using RSS Bandit … I can add to this to help you set it up … most other Programs would run similar so any instructions here would probably help with those too :) :) Happy RSS’ing :) :) VBS View all my HOW TO’S

A few weeks ago (or maybe more..) i came to a point where i wanted to have small something (widget, feed, etc) that i can place on my main website (webgrrl.biz) and few other blogs that i have.. something that shows what’s been sold recently from all the places i have my art.. The only quick solution i could come up with (and with no cost) was to make a blog and post the info items, and taking the opportunity to Thank the buyer at the same time.. and so artSOLD was ‘born’ From there, i can then grab the rss feed and utilize it in many different ways.. my favourite being the widget at widgetbox : see here In a marketing and business sense, I’m not sure if this has been done before. We usually make a blog or websites to promote what art we make and whats for sale.. but making a blog/journal of what we’ve sold, i haven’t come across, and i have this belief that people like to know what people are buying, popular etc too.. So i thought, Why Not to have one for what’s sold!? Plus if/when buyer comes across the acknowledgment of thanks, thats a positive energy too…and im all about and for Spreading the Goodness! artSOLD took me a full day to set up, using a free blogger template i went lookin for.. Then i put thinkin caps on to see what ‘widget, promotional’ goodies there is available from all the three main places i associate with.. maybe you want to make one too.. :) Its a nice journal to have, and it makes you work just that bit harder (in promotions especially) so that you get sales, and that means a new post! :)

I’ve been really diggin the widgets ive been making, and placing them all over the place. It started just with my own personal stuff that i wanted to put on my other blogs/websites (yes, i have many).. then, i wanted to show others how they could utilize the RSS feed found within Redbubble (gallery, groups and forums). today i made a PAGE of Widgets from the RSS feeds of some of the groups i belong to in Redbubble.. / Widgets for You if you want me to make you a widget that i havent made yet..just bubblemail me. if you would like any of the widgets you see on the page, just click on the “Get Widget” button/link and it will give you codes you can copy and paste into your website, profile at myspace, facebook, bebo, and many other places..you will see all the familiar logos ;)

Tshirt Comp - Last Day to Vote PLUS other bits..

Tomorrow, Monday, 18th of June is the last day where favourites and comments to all our entries for the 100% RedBubble Tshirt competition are counted! My entrys called BUBBLELiCiOUS – if you havent looked at it yet, please do – and if its worthy of comments or/and favouriting – please click away – as we get 2 points for comment and 3 for a favourite (so max someone can get is 5 points from per person). / This is the first time ive ever entered a graphic/creative type of competition, so im just a bit excited :P WoOOooT!! / I also made a poster from the tshirt design – cuz i thought maybe someone would like it on their wall – to keep motivated, cuz its got some words that would give ya just that little push you may need… / (the poster is not part of the competition) / Your support and comments are muchly appreciated ((hugs)) Webgrrl’s entry : BUBBLELICIOUS Everyone’s entries – browse thru and show your support! The Official RedBubble Tshirt Competition details WIDGETS FOR YOUR RSS FEEDS FROM REDBUBBLE Ok so now we have RSS feeds at RedBubble where we can feed into our Readers and see whats new there, and especially keep an eye of your favourites artist latest posts etc… The other night i spent a bit of time (which i enjoyed) and did some research on the available Widgets that is available for FREE from various places around the net. I found some real crap ones and some super cool ones.. / I have placed all my findings on my Webgrrl.biz blog/site so that you can go and have a look at it. If there are any there you like, just look for a button/link at the bottom of each widget, and you can grab it for yourself! Best Widgets for RedBubble RSS feeds The ones ive put in my recommended selection were chosen cuz they fit the best FOR RedBubble’s feed – meaning that we have photos in our feeds… You will also notice on my website on the sidebar (right side) that ive used the Random RB thumbdisplay made by Xavier – and further down you will see a square with like a slideshow of my stuff on RB with a bubble effect on it. Well this came from RedBubble’s team Mark Mansour – he will be releasing this info this coming week i do believe… If theres any other stuff u need to know about widgets and the rss thang.. just msg me or email me.. all info found at my profile :) Hope you all had a great weekend!! / - and dont forget to comment/vote ! Thanks xxx

WOW … RB is such a diverse and wonderful community to be involved in!! SO MANY other wonderful artists out there to share with, I LOVE it. Now that I am gathering a few friends around though, I am finding it harder and harder to keep up. I so can’t wait for these pages to have RSS feeds on them so I can put the links in my reader and NEVER miss another posted photo, Journal entry or response to a comment I have made on someone else’s work. :) Even Email notification would be nice. Or an extra page in our Account that can feed these things, so we can check there. Anyway … if I have missed anyone … it’s because it’s a little hectic right now remembering and trying to keep up. Keep up the awesome work Elves :) It’s going really great :)

More Suggestions to keep the RB Developers Busy :)

Not sure if this has already been suggested, but something that i use a lot on Flickr and DeviantArt is RSS feeds. Suggested feeds: - Your watchlist [shows when artists on your list upload new work] - Any user’s portfolio - Any user’s journal - Activity on your bubble [favourites, comments] These days I use RSS feeds almost exclusively. Apart from The Age, I don’t read any websites that don’t have an RSS feed [except for online apps ala Gmail, Google Maps etc] I currently have 125 feeds in Google Reader[!]. Another small thing that has been bugging me is that when you paste a url into your journal/a comment/an image description it isn’t automatically converted into a link. It’s weird that I would just expect this but I think most websites and apps do that these days. Anyway, cheers guys and keep up the good work! EDIT: I’m having a hell of a time creating something that looks like a bulleted list here. I had to use double line breaks [which i’m guessing converts it to a new paragraph]. -ab

Forgot to jump on here to tell you all about the interview I have in the latest release of Blanket Magazine (www.blanketmagazine.com). Bec found me right here on RedBubble – and she mentions RB for one of her questions. I gave RB the huge wrap it deserves, so go along and check it out! Jords

[HOW TO ?] get notifications of posts in GROUP FORUMS
by Mike FinleyI host moderate and/or participate in a fairly wide range of forum systems, and found one thing conspicuously absent in the group forums …
I host moderate and/or participate in a fairly wide range of forum systems, and found one thing conspicuously absent in the group forums here on red-bubble – the ability to get notification of posts in a forum or topic you are interested in. The problem is compounded by the fact that each group has its own separate forum, each of which you have to navigate to. There is an RSS feed I grumbled to one of the group leaders about this, and was told that there was in fact an RSS feed for the forums. This seemed promising, as i use RSS feeds on one of my own sites to notify when someone posts a new image, or a new exhibition date. (I really don’t like having to go chasing round websites to see if anything has been added!) (For an overview of RSS on redbubble see Craig Shillington’s RSS is here journal entry. It includes a lot of useful information on setting up an RSS reader, which I won’t repeat!) Feeds and Group Forums There is a separate feed for each forum within a group, but as Craig has already commented there is no useful indication on the page that an RSS feed is present. (You can tell if you know what to look for – if you look at the page address in the browser toolbar, you’ll see an orange icon on the righthand side if there is an RSS feed.) If you subscribe to the feed on the forum you are interested in, following Craig’s instructions, you will get ‘notified’ of new messages or topics in that forum. Thsi isn’t much of a gain unless you already have a newsfeed reader in use, or you are going to monitor several different forums in different groups. Its a big gain for me, since I use Google reader on my iGoogle page, so I get a quick check whenever I open a new browser window. (and, as I said, I’m already using it to monitor other sites). problems Unfortunately, there are some bugs in the current feed implementation – the structure doesn’t follow the standard, and nor does it follow recommendations for maximum / interoperability with readers. (These bugs have been reported to redbubble support). At present, I can’t get the feed to work correctly inside an email rss client, which would possibly be more useful – I’ll recheck this when the current bugs are fixed. status I’ve checked the current feed using the Google reader and using bloglines and it works satisfactorily in both. I haven’t checked any of Craig’s recommendations Problem solved? well, not really, but its a useful halfway step (for me at least), and provides a possible starting point. I’ll be happy to try to sort out any queries on the above … and I’d be delighted if someone else tells me I’ve wasted my time and gives me a better solution  hope this helps someone!

Yet another Greasemonkey hack for RedBubble. This one adds a Add to Google button to all forum threads. This makes it easier to keep on top of threads you’re active in (if you’re a Google Reader user, obviously). If this sounds handy, and you use Firefox, and you’ve got Greasemonkey installed, pop over here and give the script a go.

Version 0.2 of my RedBubble forums/Google reader hack is now available. This version fixes a problem where it wouldn’t work correctly if you were trying to use it after jumping to a specific post in a thread or if you were on a page other than the first page. See over here for more details.

Hack: "Add to Google Reader" button for all works
by Dave PearsonFollowing on from my forum thread Google reader hack...
Following on from my forum thread Google reader hack, the next obvious one to do was to add the Google reader button to all works so it’s dead easy (for a lazy person like me) to follow a thread of comments on someone’s work. Just like before this one adds a Add to Google button but, this time, it adds it to the action list for a work. This makes it easier to keep on top of comment threads you want to follow (if you’re a Google Reader user, obviously). If this sounds handy, and you use Firefox, and you’ve got Greasemonkey installed, pop over here and give the script a go.

Idea: News feed (RSS or whatever) of the major art and design events happening around the world. You should be able to sort by location (Sydney, New York), date (next week, next month, or during a certain semester, year, month) or subject (web design, photography, etc.). Also, I think it would be cool if there was an area or address to send ideas and suggestions into, eh? And you can enlighten me to if there already is a place/address! EDIT: Also, It’d be cool to have more options for organising art (folders/pages)
