OK… Now I do believe in Karma! I sat in traffic on Friday night with storms around me and witnessed a truly gorgeous dramatic sunset. Frustrated that I was in traffic rather than the beach I thought it wasn’t fair to witness a stunning sunset without an opportunity to photograph it. Saturday morning I popped out to Pittwater around 4:30am and found there were some dramatic storm clouds around, but the colour was pretty flat…. Then all of a sudden just as the sun was starting to peek over the horizon, the light went really weird…. it was like an orange/pink colour and had a very unusual quality about it. The sky was half storm cloud and half clear. So I missed a great sunset, but I was rewarded with a gorgeous sunrise instead.
This was another shot from the other day at Sunset. I really wanted to bring out the amazing colors of the sunset and shooting directly at the sun was hard to get a good exposure especially with the standard canon kit lens I was getting a fair bit of lens flare (Cant wait till I my Sigma 10 -20 mm lens). So I bracketed 3 different exposures all 2 stops apart. I used a cokin ND grad filter to try to keep some of the color in the fore ground. / I really liked the contrasting colors in this shot and the tree made a nice Silhouette I then used Photomatrix pro to convert the 3 images into a HDR . Final curves and sat were done in PhotoShop.
Twilight storm at Lido Key beach. The two brightest celestial bodies are the Moon and Venus. Because of the storm most people cleared the beach, but because of the storm, I was drawn towards it. I did not get another good shot of lightning that evening – I forgot to bring my tripod, so the photos prior to this one are too blurred. I captured this clear shot by setting my camera on a beach chair, and propping up the lens with one of my flip-flops. And this stroke of lightning was the last significant one. But I’m sure grateful for it! I didn’t modify the picture except to increase the brightness and contrast a bit, and remove camera artifacts. I’m not too good at making photos look more ‘artistic’, but for landscape, atmospheric, and flower photos, I think I prefer the more natural look. / (Photo taken on July 17, 2007)

Mother nature presented me on a last October evening with one of those sunsets that you can hope to see just once a year if you’re lucky. / High layers of scattered clouds, a pure, clean atmosphere and the fact that at the end of october the twilight lasts almost a hour, all this elements contributed in producing a stunning natural show. This is the Po River near to Carignano in Piedmont, Italy. I hope you enjoy it, thanks for dropping by. Paolo
/ Leilani at Sea / Dingy Daisy Leilani at Sea was created on textured canvas paper using an array of mediums including ink, pastel, acrylics and charcoal. The colours shown here are from the original painting. I am a great lover of boats and being out to sea, far far away!
This is a bit of a ‘variation on a theme’ and is actually the background image I used for Luna earlier, but with a few changes. I realise as I go about this juxtaposing of images that I can use many a good image over again by applying a few different effects and techniques to it.
views: 4957 / favs: 22 My origami calendar A sailboat folded out of a 6×10mm piece of paper rowing along the lifeline in my palm. Wow I didn’t realize my hand had all these lines :P. I didn’t turn this into a black and white this time because I managed to get a cool light on my hand (natural light) to make it more waterlike. The flow of life is parrallel to a journey off the land. It begins smooth, then the waves of adulthood brings high tides which we must overcome, However at the end of the ride, everything is smooth again. Ironically the lifeline in my palm depicts this flow; it begins smooth, then there is a big split and begin to ruffle, but towards the end it comes back together again. This concept was originally generated and uploaded in May 2008, but I bought a tripod later on and re-shot this on September 2, 2009 using the timer on my camera (an Olympus FE-340), and replaced the image alone. Not very different from the one uploaded before except this one is clearer. Morning mist rising off Lake Burley Griffin on a brisk Winter Morning is a classic and quite picturesque sight in Canberra. On this morning, I photographed a crew of rowers who appear as ghostly figures as they disappear into the mist. This is one of my earlier images, taken with a fairly simple point and shoot, but the capture was spot on despite the difficult light conditions. I cropped it in post processing, converted it to black and white and made very minor contrast adjustments. © 2008 A Spence. All Rights Reserved.
