My depiction of the Garden of Eden BEFORE Adam & Eve gave in to temptation and ate that darn apple. :) Enjoy!
Fishing poles lined up on a concrete dam on Lake Rousseau near Inglis, Florida.
All the snow in my backyard is very unwelcoming. Im’ looking forward to spring! Canon EOS 400D / 18mm / f/5 / 1/1600 / ISO 100 / Exposure compensation: -2 I converted to mono and then made a curves adjustment in Photoshop. Then I did a lot of dodging and burning in the foreground. I overlayed a bluish photo that I had overtop and changed the blending mode until it looked like this. Finally, I added a flurry of snow by adjusting a simple layer of black and white Grain, and erasing the layer in random places.
This curious little guy is an alley cat who lives outside a hotel in the Art Deco district of Miami. The unusual perspective of this painting was captured from an interesting vantage point with the cat reclining upon a stuccoed wall. The artist affectionately named his subject “Louis Puffy Cheeks” and captured this interesting feature when he painted him. He spelled the name “Lewie” instead of Louis in the title because so many people pronounced the name Lewis (must have been because of the juxtaposition with “Miami”). The artist’s treatment of the foliage is reminiscent of the primitive style of Henri Rousseau, while the sunwashed beach-tone stucco created with a scumbled effect contrasts with the more natural color and stylized lines of the cat’s fur. The chain-link fence behind the subject accentuates the Art Deco flair. My Work is Also Available at: / The Fat Cat Ltd., Oak Ridge, NC / FineArtAmerica / Deviant Art

I’ve just returned from a weekend up in Brisbane. It wasn’t just any weekend it was a huge turning point for me. I went to the Picasso exhibition. As I walked through the black curtain into the masters realm my pulse was racing. Standing in front of the first Picasso artwork I was so overcome with emotion tears were spilling down my cheeks. You might think that I’m exagerating, but to see the works of not only Picasso, but Braque, Ernst, Mattisse, Modigliani, Renoir, Rousseau (there were more) in the flesh was so absolutely a trip out of this world. In my early teen years I visited an exhibition of some of Picasso’s work at the Sydney Gallery and this made such an impression on me and has been a huge influence in my work. While studying design I was facinated by the artists from the turn of the century and I feel that Picasso was very instrumental in artists looking outside the square. I recommend this journey to Brisbane before the exhibition ends. Can you even try to imagine a trip into the beginnings of cubism, surrealism, fauvism, expressionism as an artist I don’t believe you can let this opportunity slip past you.
