This image is the 1st in a series of 3….. My inspiration behind this are all the lovely wedding images that I see; full of hope, happiness and love, but as we all know the divorce rate is very high and unfortunately many of the beautiful and happy couples divorce… It makes me wonder how would these couples feel if they knew that a few years down the road and a couple of children later, their union would end in divorce. These are the emotions I have tried to capture and portray in my series. And I would like to add a huge thank you to my model and best friend who was also my inspiration as she too recently divorced but was still brave enough to get back into her beautiful wedding dress for this shoot.

Completed in 2004, age 17 Been awhile since I have uploaded an artwork.. I have several drawings and paintings from highschool, but I just haven’t had much time for scanning; or in this case as it is a very large painting (40” x 30”), photographing and skewing in photoshop… This is a slightly cropped version of the original, due to the limits of my camera. My original signature got cropped out so I had to insert a new one in photoshop; in the original it is not actually located there. The two subjects are posed in similar positions, each having a dark, circular central focus., Both images have lines above and surrounding the centres, which draw attention towards the centres. The vertical composition help strenghten the feeling of height given by the vertical lines. Both subjects are organic, however one, the eye, has straight lines and geometrical shapes, while the rose has curvy lines and organic shapes. In the eye, the centre is literally dark, while in the flower the darkness is created by shadows. I came across this very old photograph recently of my great grandmother and one of her daughters (I do suspect it was a firm belief that cameras would break if anyone smiled in days gone by!!!) – so combined it with Granny’s favourite book, The Bible, and an old rose in another attempt at creating a nostalgic image. Another texture-fest, this time using a lace curtain, a piece of burlap and some water droplets! Oh, and don’t let me forget the rose from my pal Margie’s garden, that’s been ‘fractalised’ ;-) Hehe…this is fun, I almost want to design fabric now!
