Pure Watercolour on Arches 140lb…. I try to paint all my flowers from life, No pre drawing, just wetting the paper, dropping in some pale washes of pigment and see where it takes me.. It allows so much more freedom…..

I beLIEVE this is Elle – can’t remember quite for sure. If anyone can verify this for me I’ll be grateful. It began blooming in late spring, and only lasted two years for us, but gave quite a show while we had it.

Romance is back. I needed to work on an image with a touch of warmth today as it’s -7 outside. A composite of various photographic, text and texture layers (21 layers in total) Another in the series of works including poetry by my favourite poet Emily Dickinson. WHEN roses cease to bloom, dear, / And violets are done, / When bumble-bees in solemn flight / Have passed beyond the sun, / / The hand that paused to gather / Upon this summer’s day / Will idle lie, in Auburn,— / Then take my flower, pray!

Best Viewed Larger The original of this image was taken in my backyard on June 6, 2009 with the Nikon D40x and the 60mm macro/micro Nikon lens. Shutter speed was 1/320, aperture f/20.0, exp. -.33, iso 400. Post processing was another experiment, this time in Corel Painter 11 by hand-painting over the entire image with mostly the Oil Pastel, Round Oil Pastel brush. I’d like to dedicate this to Renee Dawson who got me interested in Painter (which is a TON of fun, by the way) and to Carolyn Staut, another master of this program who has been so consistently encouraging!!! Thank you both!!!

A lovely geranium with the most wonderful scent coming from its leaves if touched.. .. lovely in a pot near a path or doorway so you brush against it.. The little pink petals can be candied and used to decorate jellies and sorbets too (havent tried that yet..)
