  • This series was done in the middle of the woods, around the middle of Dec, 2002. It was freezing! The hot chocolate helped though. Most of these pictures are with Theak and Alex standing together, this was not a direction, and they were doing this out of a need for warmth! Half of these pictures were taken using a Nikon F, or F2 I believe, (no markings on the camera), and the other half with a Canon G3 digital camera. / Great makeup job by Rhiana, and of course, the whole look and feel of this shoot would not have been possible if not for the styling of Elisa.

  • This project is an exercise in simplicity. Every once in awhile I like to challenge myself, keep my creativity fresh, by going out and doing a shoot with just my camera and a model. I shoot here in what she’s wearing, (or what she’s wearing underneath). I’m forced to use my environment, the model’s personality, and what ever I can find to make the shoot happen. Of course with Alex and I doing these kinds of simplistic shoots for more than four years we’ve gotten very very good at it. / Featuring Alexandra Rodionova. / http://www.alexandrarodionova.net / Photo by Jef Harris / http://www.jefharris.net / Full set can be found here: / http://www.flickr.com/photos/jefharris/sets/1069293/

  • My most favorite style of shooting is to just pickup and go. This most developed style came about from my unique working relationship with Alex. (In fact most of the shots I’ve done are done now in this pick up and go style.) / So together with some portable lights, and a hand full of outfits, we set out on a chilly Ottawa night with one goal in mind. To have fun. And indeed we did. To me, each picture has its own personality, testament to the creative talent hidden all around this great city. / Full set can be found here. / http://www.flickr.com/photos/jefharris/sets/1076033/

  • This series marks my first time shooting Alexandra Rodionova in a swim suit. So to celebrate we headed an hour outside of any major cities to a secluded very large mansion. This series was shot shot in the middle of the Winter, so we where quite happy to find out that the mansion had a huge inside swimming pool. So together with a Calvin Klein swim suit Alex and I set out to conquer the world of swim suit photography. Next stop, the Bahamas. / Shot on location in Chesterville, Ontario / Make-up by Rhianna Hogan.

The new Summer Issue of Ottawa Life Magazine is out, and I’m all over this issue! / First we got the front cover. No surprise here that I teamed up with Alexandra Rodionova for this amazing shot. We came up with a great idea at the last moment. I love it when that happens. The Magazine also used another one of the cover shots for the main article, which I personally think is better than the cover shot. Then there is the two full page spread I shot at Hotel Indigo with Alex and Christiana, make-up by Erin Heather. This was a crazy shoot. Twelve hours! This shoot is going down as one of the hardest shoots I’ve done. / There are just some things you don’t expect to have problems with. Everything was great and wonderful till the exact moment we started shooting. Then everything goes wrong. / The lights didn’t work properly, the location starting having problems, outfit problems. The list goes on and on. But as usual we pulled together and prevailed! / I originally wasn’t sure what I was going to get from this shoot, but as time went on, as I was working on the pictures, I started to see the greatness of what a small group of determined people can do. / To view the entire set, plus the unpublished pictures, click on the link below. / http://www.flickr.com/photos/jefharris/sets/72157601121278550/

  • A great dusk shot of Alex and I after a very spontaneously planned shoot. The whole shoot took less than an hour!!!

  • Featuring Alexandra Rodionova / Sometimes she bleeds.

  • 1840 v2.0 / With the original versions of these pictures I was not able to use all the shots because they where damaged. But now, four years later, and with Photo Shop CS3, I’m able to rescue some really great pictures and show them now with pride. / This series was done in the middle of the woods, around the middle of Dec, 2002. • About a month after we did the Spin Dizzy shoot, Alexandra Rodionova and I went back to the same location to try a different style of shooting. I was using a different lens for my camera as well. But first and foremost we wanted to bring attention to the graffiti wall. This is just about the only ‘legal’ place graffiti art is allowed in the city I live in. This is also the only real area in the middle of the city were people can come and shoot hoops, play football, or just hang out. And of course this location is prime real state. So a high rise apartment building was being planned for this location. At the time there was a big local artistic movement to have the area saved. So this was our contribution. / Updated, 2006. Three years later this area is still open and free. / Photo by Jef Harrris / http://www.jefharris.net

  • The Fearless shoot was my chance to really plan a shoot unique to my creative relationship with Alexandra Rodionova. My idea was to compare fashion of today with fashion of around the time I was born, (1967). I used two full issues of Andy Warhol’s original Interview Magazine for the background. This was really hard for me, because these are really rare and really expensive. But if I wasn’t going to put everything I had into this it just wouldn’t be worth doing. This was one of those shoots were everything came together. The hair, (Mark), the makeup, (Caroline), the outfit, the background, the lighting, everything. / Photo by Jef Harris / http://www.jefharris.net

  • During a product shoot for a hip hop band, I caught Alex in between outfits. As she was facing away from me the light on her back was incredible. I asked her to freeze. She turned slightly and I took this picture. Model: Alexandra Rodionova / http://www.alexandrarodionova.net / Photo by Jef Harris / http://www.jefharris.net

I often take for granted the ease the working relationship is between Alexandra Rodionova and I. These pictures are a direct result of that comradery. If you where an onlooker on a shoot with Alex and I you would wonder why we hardly talk when we’re right in the middle of taking pictures. Well, we don’t need to communication, “stand this way, look that way, etc”. We know each others every move. Thus is the benefit of working with a muse. / Alas, these days must come to an end. After 5 years of working together Alex is going her own way. So all I have now are there archived photo shoots to share. I’m sure once in awhile we’ll team up again… / ...in the mean time I guess I’m in the market for a new muse! / You can contact me at muse@chaosacademy.net. / Please include head shots and full body shots. hehe / Continue here to view the full set. / http://www.flickr.com/photos/jefharris/sets/72157594387973146/

  • Behind the Scenes at Groggy
    by Jef Harris

    http://www.jefharris.net/wp-content/uploads/2007/10/16…

Another great massive set of behind the scene pictures. So grab a tea and settle in cause this is going to be fun! Out of thousands of pictures I was able to finally narrow them down to a final 70 shots! This is a great way to see what goes on behind the scenes on a large photo shoot where personalities and ego are check at the door. / The shoot was for Groggy’s 2004 catalog. I was given unprecedented access to all the goings on during the photo shoot. Over the course of two days, (and one late night), I was able to take some really amazing candid pictures. / Enjoy! / Click here to view the full set. / http://www.flickr.com/photos/jefharris/sets/72157602558762771/

  • We interrupt this current posting schedule to bring you a special accident. / Random forces are thought to have contributed to this accidental happening, or as one person called it, "Spontaneous Portrait". / The parties involved, Alexandra Rodionova and Jef Harris. have refused to comment on the origins of this chaos.

  • A nice little shoot with a very simple idea. Photo by Jef Harris. / www.jefharris.net Model: LexXxy / www.lexxxy.net

  • At the time, this was by far the most ambitious photo shoot I’d done. / As all my shoots have concepts, or themes, and all my photo shoots end up having very unique names derived from the personality of the shoot, I thought I’d take the idea a little further than I’d ever done before. / The concept for this shoot was this: Over three days shoot three very different models in three different locations. Each model was put in a place defined by my impression of their personality. Each model was given a prop for them to use or to be shot against, and yes the prop is also chosen based on the model’s personality. / So over three days, Fri, Sat, Sun, each model is shot during sunset. / While on set I was struck with very specific names for each shoot. Deep, Down, and High. (The series later became known as DDH). / The “Down” shoot is the second shoot. And just like the first shoot, it was raining heavy all day. / And again like the first day we decided to push on. And amazingly, just like the first day, the moment we showed on at the location the rain stopped and the sun broke through the clouds. Then, when we finished and started packing up, the sun when back behind the clouds and the rain started as if on cue. Photo by Jef Harris. / http://www.jefharris.net Model: LexXxy / Model: http://www.lexxxy.net

  • The location for this shoot has to be one of my favorites, and quite possibly the reason why this series turned out to be so stylistic. Well, okay, maybe lexxy, (Alexandra Rodionova), did have something to do with why the shots look so incredible. heh. / Again, this is one of our spontaneous shoots where we just got out from in front of the puter with the goal to create art. Every once in a while when the shots turn out to have such potential I tend to take my time working on them. Like a fine wine each sip must be savored for all it’s worth. This is why it took me a year and a half to work on the entire set. And the great thing about this shoot is that a hand full of these ended up being full page advertisements for various products! / Hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoyed working on them!
