Colorado is certainly known for it’s parks, and this one I happened upon out of the blue one day….it really is a majestic site, with these odd rock formations just jetting straight up from the earth, as if reaching for the sky. I was also lucky enough to capture the distant clouds as they were building for afternoon thunderstorms, later that day….spose you can say I like the sense of drama that they add to the image overall. / HDR processed, thoughts most welcomed! —-—-—-—-— See more on my website jdebordphoto.com / All artwork is © John De Bord, All Rights Reserved. This shot was taken on an overcast and rainy day at Flynn’s Beach in Port Macquarie.. I had to take a shot as the colour of the water was a very nice blue-green.. I was also happy with the way I captured the wave crashing on the rocks offshore.
As usual, this time of year is filled with showers, squalls and all-day rain or snow. In showery weather the brief breaks are mostly worth a little trip outside with the camera. / This photo was shot on a stony beach on a late afternoon between the showers. Aperture priority programme / 1/40 sec / f/5.6 / ISO 100 / Spot metering RAW capture. Processed in Camera RAW and PS Elements Water / Beach Art / Architecture / Stones / Forests / Landscapes / / /

A storm front as seen from South Newcastle Beach as it moves out to sea. Featured in the As Is group on Saturday 22/8/2009 / Thank you Tony, Harsh and Ralph for choosing my image to be featured ! :-) Image As Is straight from a 6 MP Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-S500. F-stop: f/5.6 / Exposure time: 1/100 sec. / ISO speed: ISO-80 / Exposure bias: -0.7 step / Focal length: 5mm
I love this area of the beach, so diverse, different rock formations, different water patterns, stunning soft light, sunset is just to the left. The light on this trip was so different to our last trip at Easter, this is July, the light evening and night was so even, at least 70% of my images need very little work. Just one ND filter to tone down the sky. Shot on a Nikon D700 with 17-35mm Nikkor Lens, ND 8 soft Grad, tripod with weighted bags.
A wet and gloomy evening across the small Isle of Rhum , shot from Elgol on the Isle of Skye. Canon 400D + sigma 10-20mm
The beautiful Isle of Skye. / Typical Scottish Highland weather, bursts of sunlight, lasting for three minutes if you are lucky, between heavy showers that soak you to the skin, lasting around five hours. Or more. LOL ! / You don’t have to be mad to live here, but it helps, as the saying goes ! A magic place all the same ! / Have you ever tried to set up a tripod where the heather and bog myrtle grow in abundance, teetering on the brink of a raging burn? (Burn = river) It ain’t easy ! / It causes you endless grief, for one thing, the blasted tripod wobbles around, and it disturbs those dear wee midges, which bite you to the brink of insanity, then you have a wee puppy craving attention threatening to knock the tripod/camera/you into the burn, and I can’t swim either. / Combined with Family members watching your attempts and laughing then getting bored, it is a small wonder that any images get produced at all. Professional ?? Ha Ha Ha Ha !! / Hysterical laughter ! Shot on my CANON EOS 40D, mounted, sort of, on my tripod, polarising filter, f22, 1/4 sec, 17-85mm IS Canon lens, at 22mm, iso100, auto wb, three shot RAW files processed in Photomatix, then fiddled around with in PS CS3, with some more selective tone mapping applied. LAB colour to finish. / Slight vignette. VIEW IT LARGER HERE Kiama, NSW / 1 Raw / Sun was setting off to the right, masked behind some fluffy white clouds, which gave off a warm afternoon glow to these rocks Nikon D80 / F/11
The Faerie pools are very photogenic, and I like them best on a ‘bad’ weather day, when you can attempt to capture the mood of the surrounding dark and brooding mountains. This view is looking towards a famous climb, called “Stovepipe Gully”. / The rocks are slippery, not an easy place to set up a tripod, and I have been observed by more sane folk than myself, crawling on hands and knees for the best vantage point ! / There is a trail/walk alongside the burn and various pools that goes quite some way into the hills, amidst very grandiose scenery….....but prepare for wet feet, the ground is amazingly boggy here …...... and those rocks you have to clamber over to get your shot ? EXTRA slippery !! This is a three RAW HDR, shot on my Canon EOS 40D, mounted on the tripod, polariser fitted, to lose two stops of light for the blur effect, f27, underexposed by half a stop, then a +2EV and -2EV from that reading, iso 100, auto wb, processed in Photomatix, then in Adobe CS3 with various tweaks to colours etc., and where the water was burned out by the HDR process, layered in parts of the original 0EV file.
