  • Canon 10D / 17-40mmL Antelope Canyon is the most-visited and most-photographed slot canyon in the American Southwest. It is located on Navajo land near Page, Arizona. Antelope Canyon formed over the course of millions of years by erosion of the Navajo Sandstone, primarily due to flash flooding and secondarily due to wind erosion. Rainwater (especially during monsoon season) runs into the wash that Antelope Canyon is part of, picking up speed and sand as it rushes through the narrow passageways. Over time the passageways are eroded away, making the corridors wider and smoothing hard edges in such a way as to form characteristic ‘flowing’ shapes in the rock. Lower Antelope Canyon, called Hasdeztwazi, or “spiral rock arches” by the Navajo, is located a few kilometers away from the upper Antelope Canyon and is a more difficult hike. • Dusk envelopes Monument Valley in this view of the left and right mitten taken 1/2 an hour after the sun had set. The mauve glow to the twilight sky is what caught mye eye. Editors Pick for Man & Nature Forum on Nature Photographers.net for week of 6-23 to 6-30 2007

  • Monument Valley, Utah.

  • Monument Valley is like a moonscape of amazing red rocks and earth. It was loved by the famous western Director John Ford and is the back drop to many of his classic John Wayne films. Like Stagecoach. Just over the border from Arizona it is truly unforgettable. One of the great places in the world to visit.

  • The Valley of the Waters is @ Wentworth Falls In the Blue Mountains. The Valley of the Waters may be reached by a direct walking track, which descends steeply through temperate rainforest. Cool, moist, shady conditions prevail, and the area is a rich wildlife habitat. / Apart from the regular bushwalkers, you are likely to meet wetsuit-clad abseilers who like to take a more direct, and wet, route down the numerous waterfalls. / From the valley, National Pass takes the walker to the Wentworth Falls, then back up the cliffs to the village. / The Nature Track, & other cliff-top routes, make a good alternative for walkers who prefer to avoid the strenuous climb in and out of the valley. Background Information: / Monument Valley is located on the southern border of Utah with northern Arizona (around 36°59′N, 110°6′W). The valley lies within the range of the Navajo Nation Reservation, and is accessible from U.S. Highway 163. The Navajo name for the valley is Tsé Bii’ Ndzisgaii (Valley of the Rocks). / The area is part of the Colorado Plateau. The floor is largely Cutler Red siltstone or its sand deposited by the meandering rivers that carved the valley. The valley’s vivid red color comes from iron oxide exposed in the weathered siltstone. The darker, blue-gray rocks in the valley get their color from manganese oxide. / Monument Valley has been featured in many forms of media since the 1930s. Appearances include movies, such as Westerns by Director John Ford, and science fiction movies such as Back to the Future III; television appearances as in MacGyver; as well as DVD covers, book covers, and video games such as the Playstation 3 video game Motorstorm. source: wikipedia The Watchman / Moraine Lake / Banff National Park, Moraine Lake / Bryce Canyon National Park, The Lonely Tree / Purden Lake / Sunset in Tofino / Bryce Canyon National Park / Grand National Park, Hazy View /

Background Information: / Moraine Lake is a glacially fed lake in Banff National Park, 14 kilometres outside the Village of Lake Louise, Alberta, Canada. It is situated in the Valley of the Ten Peaks, at an elevation of approximately 6183 feet (1884 m). The lake has a surface area of 0.5 km². The lake, being glacially fed, does not reach its crest until mid to late June. However, when it is full, it is a beautiful shade of blue. • I appreciate you taking time to view my work, and I really enjoy reading your comments. / Thanks for visiting :-) After shooting sunrises and sunsets in the Grampians with Neil and Lee, we finally got some clouds in the sky…well these were in the sky if you were in the valley, but high up on Boroka lookout, we were way above the rolling clouds. / ....it was such an amazing site. We met a lovely couple at the lookout having breakfast, who were visiting from England to introduce their newborn to the grandparents…just a magic place to have breakfast.

  • One of those places on this Earth that I yearn to re-visit. can you blame me ? It is like being on another planet, all those weird shaped rocks, Buttes, Mesas, the gritty dryness, the intense heat of the the mid -day sun, the way the light changes…...I fell in love with this place ! / I got up early for this one, not that I could sleep anyway knowing this place was outside of the motel where we stayed ! / This is the land of the Navajo, and I sat inside a Hogan, where I watched and talked to a man making some jewellery. Very fine work. We solved the problems of the modern world in a very short time ! / This DOES need to be viewed larger to appreciate the details ! I scanned this from a Fuji Velvia transparency, on a Nikon Coolscan V ED, edited it in PS CS3, cleaning up with the spot healing brush, and a little noise reduction. I also employed just a tad ‘Orton’, which I felt enhanced the ‘grittiness’ of the amazing desert. / Shot on my secondhand Ricoh KR10 super. f11, with polarising filter. I cannot remember the lens ! • The much photographed road shot, taken at sunrise. / All I had to do was get up early and wait for “it” to happen. / The early bird catches the worm ! Scanned from a Fuji Velvia transparency, image shot on my Ricoh KR10 super, mounted on a tripod and polariser fitted, f22, iso 50, don’t know the shutter speed ! / Scanned with my Nikon Coolscan VED into Adobe PS CS3, with a little dust and noise removal. • Acrylic painting on Canvas. / I don’t feel certain that this is complete. I am still feeling that it needs something. Maybe a broken down fence or a bicycle tire left on the side of the road. But as always I appreciate any feedback. /
