  • The sand dunes at Mesquite Flats, close to Stovepipe Wells in Death Valley National Park. From the highway it doesn’t look like much, but once you get in amongst the dunes, the photographic opportunities are endless. I loved how the windswept ripples leant this photo a sense of depth and movement- definitely one of my favourite from the shoot. I got lucky with the early light- at 6am the sunrise cast the ripples in perfect contrast and getting nice-looking pics was as easy as shooting dolphins in a barrel. May 2007.

  • Waves in Sand Rock, Arizona, USA

  • Photographed in morning light at Garden Of The Gods Park in Colorado Springs, Colorado, processed in HDR Thoughts welcomed!

  • Boreas Pass, Colorado…..one of my favorite places on the face of the Earth to shoot at….the fact that there is hardly anyone ever up here and the fields of Wildflowers go on forever really make this quite an extraordinary place. Located on the Continental Divide, it reaches an altitude of 11,481 feet high. The pass was formerly known as Breckenridge Pass in the 1860s, when it served as an early route for thousands of prospectors during the Colorado Gold Rush who crossed from South Park to look for gold in the valley of the Blue around Breckenridge. In 1866, it was widened to a wagon road that accommodated stagecoaches. In 1882, under the direction of Sidney Dillon of the Union Pacific Railroad , the Denver, South Park and Pacific Railroad (by then controlled by the Union Pacific) begun laying narrow gauge tracks up the pass, which Dillon renamed in honor of Boreas, the Ancient Greek god of the North Wind.

  • ‘Garden of the Gods’ is a wondrous ‘garden’ just out of downtown Colorado Springs. Known as ‘high desert’ Colorado Springs is nestled at the foot of Pike’s Peak, one of the many 14,000 foot mountains in Colorado. What’s bizarre is the fact this landscape spends most of the winter blanketed by snow, yet when the snow melts, much of it is dry and desert like. Colorado Springs is at around 9000 feet, so the air is clear but thin. This particular rock formation is called ‘The Prayer’ for obvious reasons. It’s an amazing place.

  • Featured in “AMERICA’s National Parks and WILDLIFE Habitat” – June 2009. A very narrow slot canyon appropriately named Spooky Gulch twists and turns for several hundred meters through a dry desert landscape. Its walls tower many meters overhead while the opening in front of you seems to get smaller and smaller. Those hikers that are both brave and thin enough to fit through will find that they are able to make it to the opposite side. At its narrowest point, the little canyon is only about 30 centimeters wide! [Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument website] [Spooky Gulch info and photos] / Copyright © 2004 Brian W. • Taken on Highway 16 North in the White Mountain National Forest, New Hampshire, USA on Saturday May 17, 2008. The view is looking towards Mt Washington, the highest peak on the Eastern seaboard. We took the Auto Drive Route up the mountain when we arrived there but it does not resemble this road in any way. It is treacherous, with shear drop offs on each side, just room enough for two cars, but they ask that people coming down the mountain yield to travellers going up. The top 4000 ft of the mountain was off limits due to weather conditions: snow and ice, but will open later in the season. /

  • Bryce Canyon – USA tour 2008 – Trees barely hold on against the elements / please view large / Rich colors can be seen among the varied hoodoos, walls, and fins, the textures and formations were incredible. / I enjoyed the most amazing hike down to the bottom and the met the cutest Americans…...a bunch of overly friendly squirrels who had a habit of climbing up legs !!! Am not a tree nor do I have nuts :)) Yes, I had to capture them,,,, / Bryce Canyon is not a “real” canyon. It is not carved by flowing water. Water is the active ingredient here, but in the form of “frost-wedging” and chemical weathering. For 200 days a year the temperature goes above and below freezing every day. During the day, melt water seeps into fractures only to freeze at night, expanding by 9%. Now as ice, it exerts a tremendous force (2,000-20,000 pounds per squarte inch). Over time this “frost-wedging” shatters and pries rock apart. In addition, rain water, which is naturally acidic, slowly dissolves the limestone, rounding off edges and washing away debris. / . / WARNING / ©2008 Globalphotos All rights reserved. / All photographs, text and images by Globalphotos are the exclusive property of Globalphotos – protected under Australian and international copyright laws. / These images may not be reproduced, copied or manipulated without written permission. / No use for Public Domain. / Use of any image for another photographic concept or illustration is a violation of copyright.

  • Bryce Canyon National Park is a national park located in southwestern Utah in the United States. Contained within the park is Bryce Canyon. Despite its name, this is not actually a canyon, but rather a giant natural amphitheater created by erosion along the eastern side of the Paunsaugunt Plateau. Bryce is distinctive due to its geological structures, called hoodoos, formed from wind, water, and ice erosion of the river and lakebed sedimentary rocks. The red, orange and white colors of the rocks provide spectacular views to visitors. source: wikipedia

  • Long Falls near the warm springs in georgia / As Is fuji finepix S8100 straight from the camera! / David Roman wrote this wonderful poem: / They came through mist in the mornings light, body’s build like stone. / Their ponies breathed the mist through their nose, that made them look like dragons. / Here they road to a sacred place of their long dead fathers. / And there they prayed to the dead for their soon to be departed. / An on this place they painted faces, colors set for war. / And danced an danced a mighty dance around a fire blazing red. / And called out to their mighty gods to give them strength this day. / That they will kill and chase the paleface back to their own land! / An if we die on this day we’ll meet you in the mist” / Thank you so much David it is perfect /

  • The rivers in the Tennessee Smokey Mountains are just beautiful. There is always a feeling of stoicism and tranquility. Sitting there by the edge of this cool pool, I wanted nothing more than I had at that exact moment. The breeze was perfect, the sun just enough to take the chill from the air. God belsses us in ways that we overlook to often. Thank you for viewing my work!!! If you like what you see here, have a peek at the rest of my work. • Ecola State Park (Near Canon Beach Oregon) / One of Ecola State Park’s first attractions was a beached whale. In 1806, Capt. William Clark and twelve members of the Corps of Discovery climbed over rocky headlands and fought their way through thick shrubs and trees to get to the whale in what is now Ecola State Park. Today, a paved road from Cannon Beach makes your trek to the park much easier. Winding your way through towering Sitka spruce, you suddenly emerge upon a breathtaking view of the Pacific Ocean.
