  • NaNo! O, NaNo! And Thank You!

On November 1st, NaNoWriMo begins. I don’t know how national it is; I’m pretty sure it’s more widespread than that….anyway, for the month of November, BIG BUNCHES of people writewritewritewrite to the exclusion of nearly everything else in their lives, in an effort to complete a 50,000 word “novel.” I’ve tried it once. Bwahah! Let’s just say it wasn’t my finest hour. So this year I’m trying again. If I decide to post the days’ efforts here, then you’ll be seeing how I get along with the attempt. Please don’t feel the need to read or comment (although I’d love to know what you think!). I’ll be posting here, if I do, so that I can include the work in All Write Now, a new RedBubble group for those members who are focused on writing novels. / And: / / Thank you VERY much to C.O.R.E. for featuring my image, For Those In Peril On the Sea. /

  • Can someone tell me how to thank “FEATURED” for favoriting my poem, Compost, a couple of days ago? That fav’ing made it show up on the RedBubble Featured Writing page, which is an amazing and wonderful honor! Thank you to C.O.R.E. for featuring my image, For Those In Peril On the Sea and to GRINDHOUSE A Go-Go for featuring my t-shirt Please Give Me a Job, Any Job! and to Digital Art Compilations for featuring my image Hub. / Wow! I appreciate these features soooooooo much! Now: I won’t be posting my NaNoWriMo daily entries (the month of November) on RedBubble. This year I’ll be letting myself off the “proofing hook” and not paying too much attention to my typing, in order to actually complete the manuscript without making myself looneytunes, and I don’t want to make RedBubble’s writing pages horrifyingly indecipherable. HERE is where I’ll post them. I’d love to have you read along… OK, here we go with some experiments! I read the recent post about Lens Baby lenses early this morning and was INTRIGUED! In fact, if those little babies were for sale locally (I checked; they aren’t) I would have warmed up my charge card and headed for the nearest RitzCamera Shop to try one and buy one if the price wasn’t tooooooooooo high. But they’re not around here and I’m not going to order them online. I want to play first. You know? The thing is, I really felt like experimenting with something, so I tried shooting through the lens of my old Pentax ME Super (I’m going to post that shot later on Glackenfoof) and also sticking different kinds of glass and glassware in front of my long-suffering Canon Rebel EOS xsi. ROTFLMO. This shot worked badly (there’s no focused area in it!!), but at least I was able to get the glass off the lens without a can opener. Here’s a tip: Never stick anything on your camera lens that could possibly…even REMOTELY POSSIBLY…get stuck there. ::gulp:: I nearly couldn’t get one of the antique glasses I tested off the lens… And finally: Right after reading THIS FABULOUS NEWS ON REDBUBBLE I signed up on BLURB and downloaded the software to make a book. Books. I hope. THANK YOU, RedBubble!!!!!! I guess that’s it, except to say that I love you all, and cherish your views of my work and comments and fav’s and I ADORE seeing your work…but if you thought I was scattered and slapdash about visiting and replying before, then wait until you see how bad I get once NaNo starts…I’ll apologize now for being that way…it’s only going to last for a month…and will do the best I can to visit and get caught up!!

  • Glackenfoof is no longer with us. ::waves bye-bye::

I just cancelled my Glackenfoof account. Can’t give you a link to it because it’s gone. I was posting my photography on that site, but I realized that having one “alter-ego” account (Robbegami) is more than enough. Thank you to everyone who was visiting there!! You’re so sweet and kind! Later this week or maybe today I’ll upload some of the Glackenfoof photography here. I love taking pictures; they aren’t always fabulous, but they always say something.

Just woke up, logged on: No sales? Not even one? / I tweeted. I emailed. I made phone calls. I blogged. Well, here’s my final idea: I’m going to take the calendar I bought for advertising and go door-to-door in my neighborhood. Wish me luck!!! And I hope everyone sells like crazy!!!!!

  • Walking Bass-Ackwards Into the Tent and Staying There

Where I’m from (the US) we’ve been hearing a lot about “big tents” lately…meaning diversity in thought, belief, lifestyle, etc. I’ve always thought of “ART” as the biggest tent of all because we’re all artists in our way. Our lives are our art, I think. But that’s the “big picture,” the conceptual view. I was never an “artist,” never knew what the heck I was doing, never learned, never studied, never did much of anything except little bits here and there: drawing, taking pictures, making figures from clay. I thought that I didn’t fit into the “art tent” because I didn’t fit into the “literature tent” either. I had no message. I had no theme. I didn’t notice other peoples’ messages or themes. And when the ideas behind the creations other people made were pointed out to me I was interested but left wondering why anyone would bother. I just wanted to look at things that I wanted to look at, see the shapes, the colors, the light. I just wanted to read the stories, what happened to and with the characters. Messages? Themes? Meh. Did I ever try to put my emotions on canvas or paper? Yes. Frequently. But doing that never led to much. The response was usually that people were pushed away by the creation. It was “too much” for them. Too intense and too ugly. Too too. I still write poetry and still empty bits of me into the words. No themes, exactly, just a feeling or two. And I edit ruthlessly. But images? My messages aren’t there. I have none, usually. No slant. No axe to grind. No point to make or story to tell. No nothing beyond the shapes and colors. So being here with “real” artists is a struggle every day. It’s a GOOD struggle, but still…..I see that what I do is lacking that pre-thought, that plan. My “art” is what I find in the things I create, like a scavenger hunt, sort of, or a treasure hunt. But I never know before I start looking what I’m searching for. I start painting and things emerge or they don’t. I shoot a picture and find something in it or I don’t. I render a fractal with no thought to what it will be and then extract something or not. I pile layers onto each other and excavate a coherent image, or not. I used to think I was just lazy about it all. In fact, a relative (who is an artist) told me that and I believed it. But I know better now. I’m not choosing this. It’s me. Could I plan ahead? Could I select a message and concoct a strategy for how to present it visually? Yes…....I’ve managed to do that. But the efforts were underwhelming, blah, dry, pale; and the images were fractured, false and nearly transparent. Not me. Truly wasteful. When I take a picture I shoot what I see. Sometimes there’s something there and sometimes there isn’t. If I can edit something into existence, then I do. When I draw, I draw until something appears that makes “sense” to me. So I lack the consciousness of concept that seems to transform technicians and regular folks into “artists.” Does that matter? Is this tent big enough? No it doesn’t matter, unless my goal is to be a great artist. Certainly the tent is big enough. The fact that I do everything backwards, creating first and thinking second (or not at all) doesn’t matter either. We’re all in the tent. It’s a big one. / And I’m very happy to be here, bass-ackwards or not.

As some of you know, I’ve been VERY far behind here in commenting and replying and thanking. It’s not that I don’t want to, it’s that I get sidetracked and do art things…then life pops in…then I’m farther behind. TO ☛MAKE UP FOR THAT☚ (is that possible??): In the upcoming weeks, until the end of the year…each day, if I can manage it…I’m going to celebrate my Watchlist, the Groups I belong to, the Groups I co-Host, the nice people who’ve bought my stuff and the folks who stop in occasionally to say “Hi.” An extravaganza of wonderful artists and friends! It all starts tomorrow!! ♬♫♬♪ Unless the power goes out. Then it’s the next day. ETA: Power stayed on! HERE’S the first installment! / HERE’S the second day.

Waaaaaaay back when I first joined RedBubble (August 2008) I did like most of us do: wandered around confused, clicking and looking and marveling at the amazing art. Some people came with me from a blog site I belong to; they didn’t stay active here as long as I have, but it was nice to be with old friends while I settled in. A few of the people I clicked on and “watched” eventually wandered away from RedBubble or visit here only rarely. But they’re all still in my Watchlist, and I’m glad! Here’s a bunch from the early days: RedBubble / What can I say? I ❤ RedBubble! Isn’t this cool? Squealia / What a super Bubbler! She helped me soooooooo many times when I was new here, not only with RB navigation but also with my first stumbling attempts at Photoshop Elements. Her art is gorgeous and fun and so full of life. Have you seen Just Boots? mompaq / mompaq! Wonderful inspiration! Colors, light! The possibilities of digital art! / Wow! Rectangular Rainbow is so neat! Pilgrim / I “met” Pilgrim while I was still on my old blogsite. RedBubble was mentioned by someone there, I think, or maybe it was a linked ad on my site? At any rate, I joined RB and posted about how great it was. And who turned up, commenting on my blog post to say Hi and Welcome? Pilgrim! I was very flattered and happy! I really enjoy seeing Pilgrim’s photography when he posts it, but I have to admit that Van Gogh by Erica 10 years old is my all-time fav in his gallery so far. oklahoman / This talented Bubbler is a good-friend-from-another-site who isn’t around here as much / as he used to be, but he comes to visit now and then. He’s a super photographer and computer genius (although he’ll probably deny it, if he sees this!), who posts on other sites. Isn’t this wonderful? butchart / Butch has been a kind and supportive friend since my early days on RedBubble. His art and words are like music. You know? I ❤ his universal masque 1. youguysrsilly / Oh, gosh, this sweet person came from the blogsite I mentioned earlier. Even though she didn’t post much, she was here and being her wonderful warm and giggly self…made the early days more comfy, until I was feeling really at home. She still visits sometimes… ::waves at YGRS:: Dorothy Venter / Wooooohooooo! FRACTALS!! Dorothy was instrumental in getting me up and running with fractals. A new world…one I still enjoy a lot, but I’ve never come close to the dazzling creations Dorothy makes! I haven’t seen her here for a long time, so it’s nice to be able to visit her gallery. Isn’t this magical? lightsmith / LOL…one of the first RB people I started watching who made me actually LOL AND his art is compelling. AND his writing. Have you seen The Vortex? / / Terri Chandler / Cats. Compassion. Talent. Energy. Friendship. There you go! That’s Terri. And here’s Heavenly Peace. More tomorrow! YOU MAY BE NEXT…..........!!!!!!! LOL (And if you’re wondering, HERE’S why I’m doing this)

  • HERE’S the FIRST day, in cased you missed it. merbelle / One of my friends-from-another-site, merbelle is not only a powerful artist (who works on canvas), but also a writer and photographer. She hasn’t posted anything new here in a while but I think she’s been doing some painting, so I’m hoping to see new images soon. Isn’t this one a delight? Dayonda / Dayonda! A whirlwind of energy. She helped me frequently when I first arrived here…she visited my images and gave me wonderful advice and support. Like several of my other Watchlist friends she hosts several groups and still manages to be there. I think my favorite non-cat image from her gallery is Golden Dream. Lozzle / Some of you may know that I love to try new things…play with art…experiment. That means I never get too good at any one technique, but I do have a good time. Somewhere along the line in those early days, I posted something that was an experiment (for me) and I THINK Lozzle saw it and said I should submit it to the Experimental Group. Anyway, I had a wonderful time fiddling around with things, art-wise, and posting to that group, one of several that Lozzle hosts. Not too long ago, she asked me if I’d be interested in co-hosting with her. Woooohooooooo!!! How wonderful! Here’s one of her art works, Organic Sculpture. Isn’t it amazing!!! riverotter / Want to see some breathtaking photography? Wander through riverotter’s gallery. Emily (riverotter) was one of the first people I knew here who was originally from my part of the world (Pennsylvania-US) and her view of beauty and nature spoke clearly to me. She was still fairly new to RedBubble too, when I arrived, but she helped me frequently, gave me lots of encouragement, and also good advice about photography. Isn’t this graceful and full of magic?” dancinfreakshow / Another talented photographer! And someone who seems to have fun taking pix. He was still sort of new here when I came to RB…but he took time to visit my work and give me tips and information and, like riverotter, lots of encouragement. There’s something in his work that is so very emotional (I think)....so clearly linked to who we are as human beings….even when the subjects of the works aren’t people at all. Here’s one: Time Stood Still zooreka / “Zoo” is a fractal-master! He also paints and crafts digital magic. He came to RB the month after I did and our paths didn’t cross until a while after I found out that fractals existed. When I saw what he was doing, WOW!! Like so many super artists here, he was generous in giving me information and support. He still does, now that I’ve begun my journey in digital painting. Zoo does so many kinds of cool images that I had a hard time selecting one that represented him, so I’ll just go with one that made a HUGE impression on me: The Curl. (If you’re wondering, HERE’S why I’m doing this.)

  • HERE’S the “Second Day” in case you missed it. Angel Perry! Wow! Angel is one the first people I met here; she was supportive, welcoming, and amazingly helpful (especially regarding photography). She hosts several groups and creates delightful art! Have you seen Poyners Creek? If not, you might want to go visit…it’s one of many wonderful images in her gallery. Russell Fry and ericseyes host The Keystone State Group, one of the first I joined at RedBubble. I’m thrilled to have these two photographers on my Watchlist. Pennsylvania is a big state; I’ve lived here my entire life but never seen most of it. Russell and Eric bring unique and gorgeous images here to share with us. Check out Russell’s Bridge and Ducks and Eric’s Frosty Winter Farm. JRobin Whitley is a musician, painter, photographer and writer. I don’t recall how she came to my Watchlist, but I know that the variety of and excitement in her art are always fascinating. She captures and creates beauty. One of my favorites is her Guitar Puzzle. One of a kind, Erhan OZBIYIK has three identities in RedBubble. His art is glorious in light and color, and full of passion. He writes for some of his images and is extraordinarily generous in sharing his love of beauty. Erhan is the first person who celebrated an image of mine, here, and the first person to write words to accompany another one. I tried to find one image from his galleries that best presented everything I see in my mind when I think of Erhan, and decided on / Goldy. If you want to see glowing golden light, captured in a glass, please take a look. OK, syd baker is the draw-er I want to be when I grow up…LOL…he’s a year older than I am, I think, so it’s OK to say that. Syd draws and paints and makes magic with his art. His subject matter is the stuff of fantasy and humor that transcend this particular dimension. If you think I’m exaggerating or kidding, take a stroll through his gallery. It’s possible you’ll never see the world the same way again. Here’s one of my favorites: Blue Man Bungalow C J Lewis is a multi-talented artist! She’s a musician and writer and painter and photographer. And a warm person who is always ready to help out when she can. I’ve appreciated her spirit since I first met her on RedBubble. Have you seen this? When I’m 64 is a treasure! Well, that’s it for now. I’m planning to continue this tomorrow. If not tomorrow, then Thursday. If you’re on my Watchlist, you’ll turn up here too! (If you’re wondering, HERE’S why I’m doing this.)
