I’ve photographed this team of working horses on a couple of occasions. Their colours certainly compliment each other.

I enjoyed meeting this horse so much! He saw me taking photos of all the horses as the pack string was loaded. I felt his eyes on me the whole time. He began to focus so hard on my camera, I felt his interest like a strong force! I walked up to him, and held the camera out to her. He very carefully put his lips on the camera and felt every inch of it with his mouth. When he was finished, he looked directly into my eyes, and I felt him saying, “Thank you!” I explained to him, what a camera was, not knowing if he could understand my exact words, I knew he understood my intentions. There are so many times with animals, when you feel a deep, intense, personal connection, and this was one of those times. When he was finished examining the camera, I wiped the lens clean and took another photo of him! :) Photo taken, west of Dupuyer, Montana / Nikon D300 / 70-300 mm lens / hand held

This beautiful draft mare is a saddle horse in a dude ranch string in Montana. At one time, she was a Premarin mare, on a farm in Canada. Here’s another of the PMU mares I found in this pack string.
