The feeling you get when you are about to leave on a road trip during the summer time. Apprehension and excitment for what the adventure ahead may hold. Camping on the beach, surfing in boardies, relaxing with friends, bbq’s and beers.

I was on a five-day trip to California and was audaciously trying to fit in the Mojave Desert, Death Valley and Yosemite National Park all in one go. Sleep ended up being the factor that lost out on this particular road trip, and on this particular morning I got myself up at 4.30am to head down to Mono Lake and catch the sunrise before scooting up over the pass into Yosemite. I had the best weather a photographer could ask for, and the morning as I cut through the mountains over Tioga Pass, I had cool blue skies and still clear air, and I was pretty much the only person around. I hit this little lake about halfway in to the Village and it was just enchanting- the water was so calm, the reflection achingly beautiful, and the sunlight on the trees was magnificent- I just had to stop for a few minutes and roll off some shots before jumping back into the car and barrelling down to the Valley itself. Driving towards Nevada one morning and enjoying the pleasure of the open road. No one but me on the road, just the way I like it.

This taxidermist-mounted, full-size mountain goat was featured near a tent in Alabama along the route for the World’s Longest Yard Sale. He was a magnificent animal perched on his own little mountain. He rates high as one of the quirkest things I saw for sale that day. But with his $1,000+ price tag, I had to leave him behind. For those of you who haven’t heard of it, The World’s Longest Yard Sale is held every August and stretches from Gadsden, Alabama to Defiance, Ohio along Highway 127. There are 4 days to cover more than 630 miles of yards sales. Please don’t copy or download this image. My photos may NOT be reproduced and/or used in any form without my written permission. This image was featured in the Neon Heaven group on March 18, 2009. ROUTE 66 IMAGE COLLECTION On a stretch of Route 66 in Shamrock, Texas the once famous Tower Conoco Station and U-Drop Inn & Cafe now houses the local chamber of commerce. Built in 1936, the building represents the art-deco style that was popular in the 1920s and 1930s. The Neon lines are lit day and night. During its heyday, the local newspaper reported that the cafe at the U-Drop Inn was “the swankiest of swank eating places” and “the most up-to-date edifice of its kind on U.S. Highway 66 between Oklahoma City and Amarillo”. “Delicious Food Courteously Served” quickly became its motto. The building with its twin towers was a landmark to the many highway travelers on Route 66. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Please don’t copy or download this image. Traveling over the mountain last Spring with a girlfriend, what a change in scenery this was from pine-covered forests. In a little town called Mossyrock, there was this endless sea of color – tulips everywhere… / Of course, there was a roadside shop that we investigated and spent a little cash…but the photo-op was a have-to!!! / They were gone 2 weeks later, upon our return trip as Mother’s Day had passed. Would have loved to tiptoe through these…;) / /
We met this Character on our 8 hour roadtrip up to my mother’s at a rest-stop area. He is a 77 year old Korean War Veteran who chooses to live in a tarped box. He is very friendly!!! We gave him some money. Then I had to explain to the kids that he wasn’t Korean….......which took awhile, lol. Somewhere around Patterson, California.

My parents owned a VW when I was growing up so, this toy one made me smile. My grandpa owned one, as well, and when I rode in, it there was this red button on the dash he used to joke about. The joke was if you pushed it, it would burn you. I always, laughed at that little, game…don’t know what that button really did lol Featured in Passionate About Vintage Featured in Those Wonderful Childhood Memories Canon Macro Shot Handheld
