La Rue Obscure is the oldest street in the old town of Villefranche sur Mer on the French Riviera, between Nice and Monaco. It was built on virgin soil at the beginning of the 13th century. La Rue Obscure formed the basis of the rest of the town’s construction on the slopes rising from this coastal lane. It gave inhabitants of the town certain refuge against possible attacks. The ship captains who were forced by storms to anchor in the bay, could make necessary repairs in safety. La Rue Obscure also welcomed precious merchandise, such as wine, in its cellars.
For the film festival in Cannes, so many movies are showing that tents are put on the beach as small cinemas.

Positano, Amalfi coast, Italy. One can never stop photographing it…
Cars loaned to us by a friend, (thank you so much) for my sisters wedding. Two beautiful cars that were stunning together, 1955 Buick and 2008 Morgan Aero. As Donna and Neil were away down the beach with the photographer I took my chance with the last rays of light of the day and the setting sun to snap my interpretation of the shot the photographer wanted. Will be interested to see how they all turn out though. Yes, I was duty driver… The Buick is like a great big old boat that floats down the road and (literally) floats round corners too! / The Morgan is just a pure all out roadster with immense power, traction to the road like it’s on rails, did I mention the only one in NZ?! Taken at the same point as Houses of Chabanais which I took back in 2003 on my little Koday p&s This one has been taken in December. (I haven’t been able to achieve those same colours since!) But having fun trying – it had been raining pretty much all day and on our way home we wanted to stop and see the river running which it hasn’t done all summer long! In Victorian times, the Queen used to regularly visit our bay (Torbay) and enjoyed our mild climate which she compared to the Riviera, since then it has been affectionately named the English Riviera, my home town of Torquay in the bay being her favourite and this has enjoyed the title, Queen of the English Riviera through to modern times. Easy to appreciate why it’s such a popular holiday resort when you see it as in this view over the harbour that I took this morning October 8, sun shining like a Summer’s day.
