  • La Rue Obscure is the oldest street in the old town of Villefranche sur Mer on the French Riviera, between Nice and Monaco. It was built on virgin soil at the beginning of the 13th century. La Rue Obscure formed the basis of the rest of the town’s construction on the slopes rising from this coastal lane. It gave inhabitants of the town certain refuge against possible attacks. The ship captains who were forced by storms to anchor in the bay, could make necessary repairs in safety. La Rue Obscure also welcomed precious merchandise, such as wine, in its cellars.

  • My home town, Nice.

  • A fisher’s boat on the beach, waiting to bring its owner out to the fishing grounds in the bay. The lamp used to lure in the fish after sunset is powered with propane gas. + Location: Makarska Riviera, Croatia

  • Taken from the square in front of the Royal Palace of Monaco. A sovereign and independent state, the Principality of Monaco has borders on its landward side with several communes of the French Department of the Alpes-Maritimes; from west to east these are Cap d’Ail, la Turbie, Beausoleil and Roquebrune Cap Martin. Seawards, Monaco faces the Mediterranean Sea. Its surface area is 485 acres, of which nearly 100 were recovered from the sea during the course of the last twenty years. Monaco lies on a narrow coastal strip, which sometimes rises vertically upwards with its highest point at 206 feet. Its width varies between .65 miles and a mere 382 yards. Its coastline is 2.5 miles long. The Principality has only one commune, Monaco, whose limits are the same as those of the state. • In Victorian times, the Queen used to regularly visit our bay (Torbay) and enjoyed our mild climate which she compared to the Riviera, since then it has been affectionately named the English Riviera, my home town of Torquay in the bay being her favourite and this has enjoyed the title, Queen of the English Riviera through to modern times. Easy to appreciate why it’s such a popular holiday resort when you see it as in this view over the harbour that I took this morning October 8, sun shining like a Summer’s day.

  • Cars loaned to us by a friend, (thank you so much) for my sisters wedding. Two beautiful cars that were stunning together, 1955 Buick and 2008 Morgan Aero. As Donna and Neil were away down the beach with the photographer I took my chance with the last rays of light of the day and the setting sun to snap my interpretation of the shot the photographer wanted. Will be interested to see how they all turn out though. Yes, I was duty driver… The Buick is like a great big old boat that floats down the road and (literally) floats round corners too! / The Morgan is just a pure all out roadster with immense power, traction to the road like it’s on rails, did I mention the only one in NZ?!
