  • Goosenecks State PArk at Sunrise on a November morning. The San Juan River covers 5 miles total while moving West only 1 mile as it bends back and forth through the sandstone of Southern Utah

  • The warm light of a Cold November Dawn illuminates the sandstone of Canyonlands National Park and Mesa Arch with the La Sal Mountains hiding in the distance.

  • A famous spot in past times, immortalised by Burns (in poetry) and Turner (in watercolour). Now just a quiet backwater.

  • A perfect winters morning, great light and a rare perfect reflection. I took many shots that morning but had to wait a few weeks to get my film back to see if any had come out. This was the one where everything came together, composition, light and technique. To balance the amazing disparity in light between the shadowed foreground and the bright background I used an ND4 Graduated filter. This filter balances the exposure by only letting one quarter of the light through the top part of the lens as compared to the bottom. The eye is so sophisticated that it automatically compensates for these differences so judging the effects of the filter is basically an educated guess and because I shoot on film I have no on location way of assessing the results and re-shooting if I mess it up. This shot is one of my all time personal favourites. It was also the group avitar for ‘All water and seascapes’ a little while back and was my first laminated print sale on the bub. For more shots from this area check out my Wilsons Promontory gallery. 10% of all profits go to the Wilderness Society

  • The salty remains in a back water lagoon off the River Murray, Lyrup, South Australia. Access to this area is next to the Ferry at Lyrup. The drought continues to effect this mighty river…. Even though sections are in trouble the main parts of the river continue to survive and the communities along them need our support! There is still plenty of water in the river main and lots of activities to be had. Canon 400D 18 – 55 lens with polarising filter. 3 shot HDR in Photomatix.

  • I went over to my former home town of Totnes in South Devon UK.,this morning having checked that high tide was at 09,56 and all was still with the River Dart like a mirror and beautiful lateral warm light. A similar scene to my earlier Reflections of the Past image that was taken with my trusty old Nikon D100. Still getting accustomed to all the features on my recently purchased Nikon D300 but was more than pleased with the results of the images I took this morning, this one having little editing, just a slight perspective crop and a little sharpening. Nikon D300 / 18 – 70 @ 29mm / AP F16 for 1/13sec / CP Filter
