The Museo Frida Kahlo in Coyoacan, Mexico City. Hidden behind high cobalt blue walls at the corner of Londres and Allende in this charming southwestern suburb, the museo is where the surrealist artist Frida Kahlo was born, grew up and later lived with her muralist husband Diego Rivera, from 1941 until her death at age 47 in 1954.

Up the Peninsula de las Playa to the top of Avda. de la Pinzona is Dolores Olmedo’s House (6 Inalambrica) where Diego Rivera, famous Mexican muralist, lived with her from 1955-1956 prior to his death in April 1957. In gratitude Diego created along the outside wall of her home, originally called The House of the Winds, a mosaic depicting Quetzalcoatl, the feathered serpent Aztec god and Xoloitzcuintle, the pre-Hispanic dog. This is an image from my neighborhood. The area is very near downtown Oakland, CA, and this is a man-made lake that was created early in the city’s history. / It is a lovely setting and here, pictured is one of the many herons that make their home here. / I was also able to capture the reflection in the stillness of the lake that day. /
