Melbourne City after twilight from Princes Bridge. / Viewed from Southbank on the Yarra River 1.5hrs after sunset. Melbourne is a very pretty city at night with lots of memorable locations. / 30D, 24-70L,mirror lock-up+timer,24mm, 1/15th, f/11,iso100. I’d left my tripod at home so ended up balancing the camera and propping the lens with a Malteeses choclate box. made from two photo’s, one shot above and then another below to capture the view and also to boost detail for print.

This is Toorongo River in the Yarra Ranges National Park, Victoria. I was in this spot just last week, and though it was a lovely river then, since the rains during the week it has become a wild flow!

The closest town to Lake Mountain is called Marysville which is blessed with many nearby waterfalls, one of the most popular is the Taggerty River which has a circuit walk near it named after the Beeches which line part of the walk. Pulled out of the archives from a while ago… A 3 exposure HDR in Photomatix software. This photo was taken with my old Canon 300D, I had a fair bit of trouble deciding what white balance to go with but I think it worked out ok. Breeze is not something we often take into consideration when we’re using a camera. Light? Yes. Shadows? Yes. But breeze plays a large part in our consciousness if we’re shooting across bodies of water. In this case, the breeze was no lighter than the gentlest caress, which meant that the surface of the Yarra River here in Melbourne was almost still, with just the slightest ripples. Melbourne’s architecture has always fascinated me, long before I came here to live in this city. It’s a great combination of colonial-era buildings flanked by modern architecture – and this shot, I guess, is an interesting example of how the two styles co-exist. I shot this in 2007, just before sunrise, while standing on the pedestrian footbridge across the Yarra. The greenish tinge is the central dome above the station’s main entrance and is one of the city’s major landmarks. The broad golden band that stretches almost all the way across mid-frame (and its faithful reflection) is simply caused by the perimeter lights across the platform closest to the river. This was shot without a tripod. I do not crop, enhance or post-edit my work in any way. What you see is exactly what I shoot. Shot with a Pentax K100D. F4.5, 0.3 sec, ISO 800, focal length 34mm.
