  • Relax in an Adirondack Chair near a peaceful view of the Hudson River

  • In the centre, the Weem Rock and in the distance, the snow covered Grampian Mountain range seen looking over the River Tay near the Village of Aberfeldy in the Breadalbane region of Highland Perthshire (Breadalbane means “Highland Scotland” in Gaelic). Shot taken on Saturday 20th December 08 in the middle of our winter. The Grampian Mountains or Grampians (Am Monadh in Gaelic) are one of the three major mountain ranges in Scotland, extending northeast to southwest and forming a natural barrier between the Highlands and the Lowlands. The Tay is Scotland longest river, meandering across Scotland from Loch Tay before flowing out to sea at the Firth of Tay. Three bracketed JPGs converted to HDR in Photomatix. • For affordable canvas prints please                     click here The view on a miserable, cold, frosty, misty day across the River Stour from the bridge on Mill Lane by White Mill between Shapwick and Sturminster Marshall, Dorset, England. This narrow (about 9’ [3m]) bridge covers a rather wide span of the river. The span is increased at this point by an extra loop of river cut out to flow under the mill, which stands behind me. The build allowed for small recesses (see shot) in the road between each arch to let pedestrians stand aside from traffic. White Mill bridge is described as ‘the oldest and most beautiful in the county’. There are references to the building of a ‘Bridge on the River Stour adjacent to the White Mill’ in the year 1175. An investigation into the foundations showed that the bridge stands on timber pilings. These have been carbon dated to the 12th C. The original arches were rebuilt in the 16thC. The bridge, built principally of heathstone and Purbeck stone, possesses eight arches, and has undergone extensive repairs in the 20thC, although the original oak piles still remain in place. It has never been widened, this may well be the result of its being of a generous width for a medieval bridge in the first place.

  • North Conway, New Hampshire / Nikon D40, Nikkor VR 55-500mm lens / October 2009 “North Conway and its surrounding towns offer some of the best hiking in the White Mountain National Forest. It also features some of the best rock climbing sites on the East Coast, its gem being Cathedral Ledge in Echo Lake State Park. The 500-foot (150 m) cliff overlooks Echo Lake from the west and the Saco River and the Saco River valley in the east. Cathedral Ledge has an automobile road to the summit, which provides fine views of the Saco River Valley.” / ~ Wikepedia

  • Well, it rains more often than not on Skye, so a chance to use a photographic opportunity ! A few breaks in the cloud, the weak sun spotlighting the Landcsape…......click, shot in the bag ! / I love the thunder of water that echoes around me when I capture a shot like this, it raises my adrenaline level, and I confess to getting “high” !! / A late evening shot. A three shot HDR, RAW files, taken on my CanonEOS40D, mounted on tripod, f23, iso100, auto wb, polariser fitted to help blur the water a little more, (a ND would have done a lot more!), then processed in Photomatix, titivated up in Adobe CS3. Further enhancement, by duplicating the HDR image, applying full strength Orton, then layering back on to the original, (HDR!) and reducing the opacity until I was happy with the result !
