Top Featured Piece Of The Day in the Live, Love, Dream group, 12th Nov, 2008. / Featured in the Rivers, Lakes and Dams group, 12th Nov, 2008. Early one January morning, I got out of bed before dawn and headed in to London and the Thames. I knew where I wanted to get the shot from. I set up the tripod and camera and waited. I hoped the sun would be visible, but had nothing more to base the possibility on other than the sky had been red at sunset the night before. My luck was in!

BEST VIEWED AS A MEDIUM SIZED FRAMED PRINT ON YOUR SITTING ROOM WALL! Drifting all alone on a vast ocean with just myself for company! This is a shot of a cargo vessel heading out from the mouth of the River Shannon across Ballybunion Bay in the eastern Atlantic Ocean. The shot was taken with a telephoto lens from Knockanore Mountain (really a large hill) some two miles from shore as the préachán flies. / /
Early morning on the Norfolk Broads, England. The glowing sunlight on the mist up ahead, where the river narrows, makes one eager to discover what beauty lies in wait around the next bend. / /

The River Foyle, Derry City, Northern Ireland. / I live in a large housing estate on a hill overlooking the city, and this is the view from the top of our street Just one of many reasons not to move house. During the troubles, the media favoured us with the label “republican enclave”. I didn’t do a survey of my neighbours’ political leanings, and I didn’t know any terrorists. Got caught in plenty of crossfire, though. Very scary!! / These ridiculous labels like the above, and “loyalist enclave” gave no idea whatsoever of the ordinary man and woman, the silent majority, (and I mean majority,) who lived in areas of high unemployment and low income; and who did their best to keep body and soul together in the midst of violence and fear. / I salute them. I salute the parents, especially. I salute my parents. http://images-3.redbubble.net/img/art/backingcolor:white/product:greeting-card/view:preview/2329535-2-a-view-of-the-river.jpg!
Come out come out no use in hiding / Come now come now can you not see? / There’s no place here what were you expecting / Not room for both just room for me So you will lay your arms down / Yes I will call this home Away away you have been banished / Your land is gone and given me And here I will spread my wings / Yes I will call this home What’s this you say / You feel a right to remain / Then stay and I will bury you / What’s that you say / Your father’s spirit still lives in this place / I will silence you Here’s the hitch your horse is leaving / Don’t miss your boat It’s leaving now And as you go I will spread my wings / Yes I will call this home / I have no time to justify to you / Fool you’re blind, move aside for me / All I can say to you my new neighbor / Is you must move on or I will bury you Now as I rest my feet by this fire / Those hands once warmed here / I have retired them / I can breathe my own air / I can sleep more soundly / Upon these poor souls / I’ll build heaven and call it home ‘Cause you’re all dead now / I live with my justice / I live with my greedy need / I live with no mercy / I live with my frenzied feeding / I live with my hatred / I live with my jealousy / I live with the notion / That I don’t need anyone but me / Don’t drink the water / Don’t drink the water / There’s blood in the water / Don’t drink the water / There’s blood in the water A song by Dave Matthews about the injustice of the native American Indians, but could have been written about the Australian Aborigional people and their injustices. This shot was taken from a place where they once roamed freely.

Scaleber Force is convenienly situated by the road side (Settle to Airton) so nobody needs walk more than a few yards to view the waterfall. The beautiful Isle of Skye. / Typical Scottish Highland weather, bursts of sunlight, lasting for three minutes if you are lucky, between heavy showers that soak you to the skin, lasting around five hours. Or more. LOL ! / You don’t have to be mad to live here, but it helps, as the saying goes ! A magic place all the same ! / Have you ever tried to set up a tripod where the heather and bog myrtle grow in abundance, teetering on the brink of a raging burn? (Burn = river) It ain’t easy ! / It causes you endless grief, for one thing, the blasted tripod wobbles around, and it disturbs those dear wee midges, which bite you to the brink of insanity, then you have a wee puppy craving attention threatening to knock the tripod/camera/you into the burn, and I can’t swim either. / Combined with Family members watching your attempts and laughing then getting bored, it is a small wonder that any images get produced at all. Professional ?? Ha Ha Ha Ha !! / Hysterical laughter ! Shot on my CANON EOS 40D, mounted, sort of, on my tripod, polarising filter, f22, 1/4 sec, 17-85mm IS Canon lens, at 22mm, iso100, auto wb, three shot RAW files processed in Photomatix, then fiddled around with in PS CS3, with some more selective tone mapping applied.
