girl has found a solution for the problem

  • Good point…they weren’t really kissing, they were sparring…

  • Generic image of three female Figure Skaters at the medal ceremony of a World Championships.

  • I watched a major battle today between a male Eastern bluebird and a dominant male sparrow. This beautiful young male was fighting gallantly for his turf, but I don’t know what the outcome will be. Sparrows have superior bills and don’t give up easily. It’s a shame they rival bluebirds for nesting boxes as they don’t have to have this kind of nest; they can pretty much survive anywhere. The bluebirds had already constructed the nest, but the female had not yet laid her eggs. That’s a good thing as I’ve seen sparrows enter a nest and destroy the eggs. Let’s hope for a good outcome!

  • This Eastern bluebird female was in a frenzy in the treetops. A male sparrow had invaded her nest and she was beside herself as she helped her mate try to oust it from their territory. With lots of wing action, scolding and squawking, and divebombing, they were putting up a heck of a fight for the little nest so skillfully constructed from pine straw. There aren’t any eggs yet; hopefully the scuffle will be resolved and the sparrow will find a place to lodge under the M at McDonald’s or the A at Arby’s where he can fare just fine! P.S. Please view this photo in larger mode so you can better appreciate the delicate little balancing act as this female is standing on one leg, the other retracted and ready for flight as she divebombs the menacing sparrow!

  • This bluebird female reminds me of a prim little lady, sitting prettily on a branch with new spring leaves. The real story, though, is that she is in great trauma as a sparrow is threatening her nest. Just goes to show that we never know what’s under the surface of still waters.

  • Acrylic on board. / I love to photograph people in pubs, but fleeting expressions are hard to photograph. Here I have attempted to capture in paint one of those moments not caught on camera. Featured in LMAO Art.

  • Sibling twins / At tug-of-war / Gravity wins / The final score / / Captive light / Watches the match / This futile fight / With no rematch / / Space can’t defend / Their wormhole route / Bent space will end / This cosmic bout / / A conceptual fractal artwork portraying twin white dwarf stars being drawn together, each one pulling the other apart as gravity pulls them to their inevitable union. As they approach one another their combined mass and gravity begin to form a black hole, tearing the fabric of time and space. The spectrum of light is halted in it’s tracks as a new black hole forms it’s event horizon. / / The fractal artwork was rendered with ChaosPro 3.3. The gradient was created with the ChaosPro gradient editor that is packaged with the program. The two stars were painted into the finished fractal using Photoshop. The stars were the only post-processing done to the fractal image. /

  • The famous Waterfalls Trail has some of the most spectacular waterfall and woodland scenery in the North of England. The trail is 4.5 miles/8 kilometres through ancient oak woodland and magnificent Dales scenery via a series of spectacular waterfalls and geological features. / With rare and interesting plants and animals and its importance as a geological site much of the Waterfalls Trail has been designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) by Natural England.

  • Taken in my North Yorkshire Garden. growing round the edge of my garden pond. / Though closely related to wood avens, with which it hybridises, this attractive plant looks quite different. Orange-pink flowers with erect petals and purple sepals can be seen nodding at the end of long stalks. The round unlobed leaves are mainly found at the base. The feathery seed heads follow the flowers. The underground rhizomes smell of clove oil. Water avens likes marshes, wet woodlands and damp rock ledges. It is an ideal marginal or addition to the bog garden and is not at all invasive. / /

  • I have been leaving food out for this little chipmunk… and he had just been tussling with a second one for rights to the stash. While the haggling and chasing were still going on between the rival chipmunks, this squirrel sidled up and helped himself to the spoils. Not long after, one of the arguing ‘munks came back for the food and found that he had been duped… I think the squirrel had a deal with the second chipmunk to distract the first. But I’ve heard it’s a menial reward for your work… the squirrel will pay you peanuts… (The pink ‘blur’ in the forefront is the fluffy bloom of an amethyst Astilbe that I couldn’t dodge from my only angle.)
