THANKS SO MUCH TO RED BUBBLE / FOR FEATURING THIS ON THE HOME PAGE / 8th February 2009 ...let’s all play nicely here folks and keep this brilliant community a melting pot of creativity, friendship and tolerance co-hosting three groups of my own, i do know it can be frustrating at times but seriously – there are far greater problems in this world at the moment than a challenge indiscretion – and in all honesty – most people really do just get confused with all the different rules of so many wonderful and exciting groups on here and omit the required specs – it only takes a little prod or gentle (cut & paste) reminder – which basically involves less energy that it does to delete the pic and send out rude & aggressive bubblemails! Life really is too short…unwind a little…don’t measure so much – the essence of any piece of art is the creative expression captured at that particular point in time…what came from the heart and eyes of the artist…not the logistics and statistics or the definition of urban! Red Bubble is not an official high end exclusive photography club bound by rigid rules and regulations – the very opposite – it’s a collective bunch of ordinary people who share the same passion for art and photography – and who enjoy expressing themselves through their art in the hope of being respected by like minded individuals – sharing new ideas, techniques and different perspectives from all walks of life – the world doesn’t need any more bullies…♥ a-m symons / 8th February 2009 / (with excerpts from a lengthy opinion, previously on this pic, regarding aggressive bubblemails from hosts – my removal from a challenge and subsequent removal from the group) my beautiful wild white cockatoos ♥ . ♥More Bird Pics ♥ Finally….the Bulldog Calendar! /

I was sitting on this Turkey Vulture waiting to capture a typical Vulture launch from this tree stub when, KA-POW!... , a Red Shouldered Hawk swooped down and knocked this Vulture off his branch. I was stunned to see this same hawk do it again seconds later. / Nothing like good neighbors on the street I guess!

Mom always loved you best! Can’t you hear the whining in the background. This is one of those pieces that started out as one thing and then took on a life of it own. It was going to be a sequel to Love Me Love My Cat. When I noticed the expression of the cat in the lower left. To all who believe that they are the least loved…Mama’s reply is,...say it with me “I love you equally, just differently!” About this Painting: / media: 140 lb smooth bristol / Materials: color pencil, marker / Subject: cat & woman / Style:modern cubism

  • We have many young Steller’s Jays at the bird feeders and birdbaths. My mate Howard Marsh shot this of two young squabbling (and noisy!) Steller’s Jay and allowed me to post. The Steller’s Jay (Cyanocitta stelleri) is a jay native to western North America, closely related to the Blue Jay found in the rest of the continent, but with a black head and upper body. It is also known as the Long-crested Jay, the Mountain Jay, and the Pine Jay. It is the only crested jay west of the Rocky Mountains. They are omnivores. (Based on info from wikipedia.) I like the way the D300 manages faster ISO speeds without noise. The D200 does not. Nikon D300 and Nikkor 70-300mm lens. 300mm, at f/5.6 and 1/200 sec, -0.3ev, IS0 400, manual exposure, manual focus. Converted from 14-bit RAW to jpeg using Capture NX 2.1.

Mollie and Clyde. An instance where size doesn’t matter: the smallest of the litter taking on the largest and finding time to pose to perfection. The Rottweiler, or Rottweil Metzgerhund (“Butchers Dog”), is a “medium to large size, stalwart dog” breed originating in Germany as a herding dog. It is a hardy and very intelligent breed. Rottweilers also worked as draught dogs, pulling carts to carry meat and other products to market. “Rottweiler breeders aim at a dog of abundant strength, black coated with clearly defined rich tan markings, whose powerful appearance does not lack nobility and which is exceptionally well suited to being a companion, service and working dog.” The Rottweiler was kept busy in these traditional roles until the mid-19th century when railroads replaced droving for getting livestock to market. Although there are still Rottweilers working stock all over the world, many other roles have been found for this versatile breed. During the first and second World Wars, Rottweilers were put into service in various roles including as messenger, draught and guard dogs. Currently they are often used as search and rescue, assistance, guide dogs for the blind, guard and police dogs in addition to their traditional roles. Although an extremely versatile breed used in recent times for many other purposes, the Rottweiler is first and foremost one of the oldest, if not the oldest, of herding breeds. A multi-faceted herding and stock protection dog of exceptional ability, it is capable of working all kinds of livestock under a wide variety of conditions. The breed is an ancient one, whose history stretches back to the Roman Empire. In those times, the legions traveled with their meat on the hoof and required the assistance of working dogs to herd the cattle. One route the army traveled was through Württemberg and on to the small market town of Rottweil. The principal ancestors of the first Rottweilers during this time was supposed to be the Roman droving dog, local dogs the army met on its travels, and dogs with molosser appearance coming from England and The Netherlands. This region eventually became an important cattle area, and the descendants of the Roman cattle dogs proved their worth in both driving and protecting the cattle from robbers and wild animals. However, by the end of the 19th century as railroads became the main method for moving stock to market, the breed had declined so much that in 1900 there was only one female to be found in the town of Rottweil. As they approach one another their combined mass and gravity begin to form a black hole, tearing the fabric of time and space. The spectrum of light is halted in it’s tracks as a new black hole forms it’s event horizon. / / The fractal artwork was rendered with ChaosPro 3.3. The gradient was created with the ChaosPro gradient editor that is packaged with the program. The two stars were painted into the finished fractal using Photoshop. The stars were the only post-processing done to the fractal image. /

This is for you, Keith! It was the game that Edmonds hit two homeruns in one inning! Yeah, yeah—I know you came back to sweep ‘em. I don’t know much about art, but I do know that this photo definitely evokes emotion! The Cubs fans are thrilled that I’m actually supporting their team, the White Sox fans are mad because I “don’t deserve” to meet AJ, and the Cardinals fans think I’m out of my mind wearing a Cubs tank top ;) I just love baseball :) —Taken on the field, at Wrigley during batting practice. And yes, I do wish I had the job of the photographer off to the left.
