This is the final image from a series or 8 artworks depicting the Rites of Passage through life from Conception to Passing. It represents the serene essence of humankind leaving the material form of the body and passing over to the next realm of existence. The form itself is a spiral formed from the perfect harmonious spiral formed from the ‘Golden Ratio’ of sacred geometry that is the basic form of all that exists. This work has been created from handmade papers and organic materials from the rainforests of Northern NSW, Australia

Upon the importance of a “rite” (tea, as the japaneese ceremony),in the life of the Artist! / Some Artists, had a rite before they spend themselves into creating! / Some had a rite after they had finished their piece of work! / Some as they are actually creating! / It can be Music or something else, which helps them into the process of releasing what their guts need to release ! / Tea can bring a certain peace to the “creator,” as it might help to canalize the energy needed to achieve THE ULTIMATE PIECE! / Many have used alcohol, or drugs! / Some have created, animated by the Love of GOD or led by what they call a “third entity” ! / And I believe that for most Artistson top of all these reasons above named,, heartaches, difficulties, trials, challenges of life’s journey are what causes the ARTIST TO CREATE OUT OF HIS GUTS! / To ” vomit” what the body, the soul, the mind and the spirit have accumulated from years of labour! A caterpillar of the Large White Butterfly at the beginning of pupation. Soon he will slough off his skin, the soft green pupal form will be revealed and over several days, the characteristic markings will emerge as the chrysalis hardens. One day, the colours will change, the case will split open and the crumpled imago will crawl out. This recent digital painting is directly modelled on one of two rare White Ravens born on Vancouver Island in May, 2008. Known by the Haida First Nations people as “Spirit Ravens”, these two wonderful birds were born along with 3 black siblings to two accepting Raven parents. What a thrill it was to watch them fly as my friend and I took hundreds of photos and some fun video footage of these rarities. Spirit Ravens are not albino, although they resemble them from a distance. These birds actually have blue eyes and are every bit as mischievous as their black counterparts. 25% of all sales will benefit the Mountainaire Avian (& Mammal) Rescue Society (M.A.R.S.), in the Comox Valley, Vancouver Island, (B.C., Canada). / They can be visited at their web site at: www.wingtips.org Thank you for helping me to help them. ~ Skye
“DARE TO BE DIFFERENT” makes the perfect gift for the independent individual in your life. Could that be you? The image features a photograph of a real White Raven (also known as a “Spirit Raven” by local Haida people) born in May, 2008 on Vancouver Island, B.C., Canada. He is one of two rare white and 3 black Ravens born to 2 accepting (black) parents. The two rare birds are not albino which is what makes them so unusual. Their eyes are quite blue. All 5 siblings are getting along extremely well and all are thriving. White Ravens are very rare and hold sacred meaning for many groups and cultures throughout the World, including Native American Indian, Celtic, Norse and Wiccans. This artwork is another tribute to these remarkably intelligent and friendly birds. 50% proceeds from all sales go to the Mountainaire Avian Society in the beautiful Comox Valley on Vancouver Island. For over a year, I have written the story of Ged who was chosen by her father, a well respected King to find the abducted princess. He has traveled through many solar systems risking his life to save the golden haired lady. The team sent on this mission have climbed the steps of Mystic Mountain and when they reach the top of the stairway, they are shocked to find out that the huge rocks can move and in a very threatening voice warn these seasoned warriors that no man that has entered the forbidden territory has come back alive. There are men on bridges near the top of the mountain who are a few of the many who guard this territory. Ged, has traveled through many solar systems risking his life to save the golden haired princess. Ged is swimming under one of the many waterways to find the phylum where the princess is sequestered. Tonight is her initiation into the Swift Running Tribe who plan to indoctrinate her using mind control after branding her with the tribe’s fertility marks. The princess is unaware that Ged is swimming under the waterways to reach the breeding pool (the graluz) before the initiation rites begin. Time is running out. Mystic Mountain and Tandaloor are part of this story and can be viewed in my portfolio on RB. To appreciate this photograph, please view it in the large / format. ....to be continued .to be continued

Collaboration with my good friend George , a.k.a. monocotylidono , who kindly trusted me with the post-processing of one of his beautiful flower shots. It was a pleasure and an honour to work on this project. George’s photos are so inspiring! When George saw my first draft, a title for this wilting tulip immediately sprang to his mind. Requiem for a Tulip ! I had started working with another sheet of music, celebrating the spring, but with this new title and orientation, George and I decided upon something moodier and darker, more appropriate for a flower’s death. I found the music scores of Requiem for a Dream by Clint Mansell, which I printed, photographed, then modified in Photoshop. I think that it blends very pleasantly with the subject. Below are all the layers used in the composite, with various blending modes and opacities. The original image and the green moss layer have both received a selective colour adjustment layer in order to tone down the yellow and greens a bit, and changing them to richer and deeper colours. Finally, on top of all the textures shown below, I added a transparent layer at low opacity, on which I used some large grunge brushes in black, to add scratches and dirt smudges to the corners and edges, creating a textured vignetting effect. Position your cursor over the thumbnails for more details on the images and how they were used in the composite / / / Should you wish to listen to George’s favourite inspiration for the title, just click on this link to the Requiem (Grande Messe des Morts) Lacrymosa by Hector Berlioz on YouTube. I must add that this is my favourite as well! For those who would like to listen to the music associated to the score in the composite, please click here for the soundtrack of the movie Requiem for a Dream Finished in 5th position of Top Ten in the Single Beautiful Tulip challenge of the Tulips Group on March 30, 2009 My friend George, aka monocotylidono entered his copy of this creation in the challenge Let’s Collaborate of the Live, Love, Dream Group, and it finished in 5th position of Top Ten ! Well done, George! :-)

Yesterday, June 21st, 2009, was the brightest night of the year on the northern hemisphere. At the World Heritage Museum of Tanumshede, Bohuslän, Sweden, this was celebrated with music, dancing around the maypole, and a fire procession to an old lake where offerings once took place…in what we call Bronze Age. / The little girl wears a wreath of flowers in accordance with the custom at Midsummer festivities in Sweden. It´s all done to honour the Sun and the abundant fertility of Summer. Lighting fires is a very old tradition at year festivals…probably to invoke and rekindle the relation to the lifegiving Sun mother. In the Nordic languages the Sun is of the feminine gender. / A wooden sculpture in the background is a replica of a fertility goddess found by archeologists in such a lake. / Her name was mentioned by Tacitus as Nerthus…related in Swedish to the word for nourishment.
I played Igor Stravinsky’s incredible Rite of Spring (Le Sacre du Printemps) many times during my time as a cellist. Stravinsky based the composition upon the pagan ritual in which a young girl dances herself to death. Stravinsky’s earliest conception of The Rite of Spring was in the spring of 1910, in the form of a dream: ”... the wise elders are seated in a circle and are observing the dance before death of the girl whom they are offering as a sacrifice to the god of Spring in order to gain his benevolence,” said Stravinsky.

Image is shot as is, but I thought a ragged border would accentuate the subject and so created my own border in Ps, so I hope it doesn’t destract from the original image. Made in Ultra Fractal 5, except for the signature. I made this back in March, when the weather was playing tricks on us, making us think that Spring was here. A few days of seasonable weather was followed by a big storm that dumped several inches of snow in our yard.
\ / My idea of a holy picture, like the ones we used to have when we were little with a contemporary feel to it. St Agnes of Rome (c. 291 – c.304 virgin–martyr) is often depicted carrying a little lamb. She is the patron saint of chastity, gardeners, girls, engaged couples, rape victims, and virgins. Read more about her here in Wikepedia and more in my recent journal here the poem The Eve of St Agnes by John Keats (thanx to izzybeth for reminding me of it to include here)
