  • During the summer holidays I badly injured my ankle surfing and the had to be content watching the seemingly endless run of good swells that arrived on the East Coast of Australia. This sequence was taken on new Years Eve at North Curl Curl. The swell was from the north and the tide extremely high. I hobbled onto a rock had the intention of taking photos of my friends surfing out North Curl Curl Point. The action was instead around the pool with a crowd of people watching a group of grommets having fun holding onto the pool railing as large foaming waves washed through. At one point one of thrill seekers walked to the other end of the pool closer to where the swells were smashing into the rocks. I could not believe my eyes when I saw two of the biggest waves of the day heading in and I focused my lens on his situation. The sequence in this picture tell the story of the first wave. It was amazing to watch and the crowd cheered wildly once they realised he was still standing. An infamous quote of Muhammad Ali about the potential rewards for taking a risk has been included as part of this artwork. (this has been taken out) Scott PS: The seconds wave was much fiercer and took him out with ease. Photo Taken using Canon EOS Digital Rebel ETi in sports mode :)

  • I can assure you that tonight there is not a picture I’ve put up that means more to me than this one. It was difficult to adjust the focus as my tears were fogging up the viewfinder. Pulling them in with the 300 mm lense…I knew it was too dark out. I knew the pictures weren’t going to be technically “good”. / Both girls had come into the house crying earlier in the evening. Trembling… bruised.. grass stained. They had made a sharp turn with the 4-wheeler and flipped it at the end of our driveway. All of our kids have been driving this four wheeler since they were about seven years old. Lately I’ve watched the girls grow more daring. More bold. Our warnings to “slow down” and “stay in the yard” began to carry less weight in the lightness of their own sense of immortality. Aside from some minor “road rash” they are essentially unharmed. / Thank God. It was a typical friday in Fall in many ways: Indian summer weather with a blazing orange sunset and harvest moon. Our family of six, spread out now as the kids grow older. My oldest boy working at the grocery store in town. My other son playing at a football game in a town an hour away. My husband bringing the hay in from the alfalfa field as the sun touches the horizon. And me with my camera watching my girls and our two dogs race up and down the driveway in youthful exhuberance. Every night when I lay my head down on my pillow at night… I know I wont’ sleep until the last one has walked in the door. I worry about them driving. I worry about them getting injured in sports. I worry about their grades. I worry about their wrecklessness. I worry that they don’t sleep enough, eat enough, study enough. What mother doesn’t. Right? I’ve seen a lot of kids carried off the football field. Every game I pray that it won’t be mine. My husband works with the Sheriff’s Department on weekends in a college town. Lots of drinking and partying. Lots of stories about kids in car wrecks. I pray every time they turn the key to go somewhere. And all my life I’ve grown up hearing stories of farm accidents. We all grew up around the tractors and 4-wheelers and dirt bikes. My kids are no different. As I watched the girls skipping up the driveway tonight, I knew that one prayer in particular had been answered today: / God, please keep them safe. / I know this is long. But if you have kids, (or really just anyone you love!)............... I hope this will remind you to pull them closer. / /

  • “Lord of Paradise” by Skye Ryan-Evans features a beautiful wild Chimpanzee surveying his diminishing world. “Many people are unaware that the common African Chimpanzee is no longer common. They are a species nearing extinction!” 50% of all proceeds go to The Jane Goodall Institute. An incredible organisation that helps protect the seriously endangered African Chimpanzees (often mistakenly called “monkeys”). Jane Goodall through a lifetime of tireless researching, education and campaigning was one of the first Chimpanzee experts to bring notice of their precarious status to the World stage. Thank you for helping us to assist this incredible group of wildlife enthusiasts. Jane Goodall is one of my heroes and I donate as regularly as my art sales will allow. Thank you for caring about these magnificent creatures. Skye :o-) “

  • Taken in Grenoble France. This door way was on a portion of ‘Porte Saint-Laurent’ attached to the Bastille walls closest to the river. The Laurent Quarter is amongst the oldest in the town. The Actual gateway is adjacent the right, but this door and the above windows appear unused. Built in the 1600s. HDR in Photomarix from 3 hand held images.

  • HAPPY HALLOWEEN I’m so sorry it’s been tough for me to catch up with everyone lately…so I thought I’d say hi and wish everyone a safe and fun Halloween!! After 5 months of chemo…and now on radiation…soon life will be back to normal. This month is my 1 year anniversary that I found my lump, and I am so thankful to have gotten this far in the game. With 6 1/2 weeks of radiation…I have less than 2 weeks to go, and one final surgery. I can’t believe I’m almost at the end of this!! I also wanted to thank all of my friends out in RB land for such wonderful, positive and amazing support you have given me since I was diagnosed with breast cancer. When I originally joined here in Oct of 2007…I never expected to make so many friends. The community here is so uplifting…and I am so lucky to know all of you!! From my heart to yours…thank you!! I expect life to finally be at normal pace in about 1 month…so forgive me if I haven’t been able to drop in a lot lately…but I want all of you to know you are always on my mind…and I truly love you all!! xoxo / Kellie P.S. I took this shot a couple years back in North Idaho near the Canada border (1 month before it was torn down). Such a shame to see these old beauties taken away…but was fortunate to come across it before it was gone! :) My Little Devil /

  • So tempting, something pulling you up the front stairs to the door, the house has been empty for years, and you finally got the guts to go and get a closer look, even though everything in you says “NO..STAY AWAY” you can’t help yourself… you put you hand to the door knob, part of you wanting it to open, part of you hoping that its locked..slowly you start to turn the knob..click, click…its locked…relief and disappointment runs through you at the same time.. turning to leave you hear the knob turn and the creaking of the door.. frozen on the last step, you turn to see the door slowly opening..and before you could move your feet fast enough something grabs your ankles..face first you hit the ground..All you can hear is screaming..realizing its you screaming..You start kicking, but there is nothing there, at least nothing you can see, but you feel it, hands dragging up the stairs..across the porch, throwing you through the open door into a world of horror… Nikon D90 / 18-200mm VR Lens A door on a old apartment.

  • Thanks to Voltaire Carlos for loaning me his wasp to photograph. Two photos taken at f/11, 1/200sec, ISO 800 and focus merged then high-pass sharpen in Photoshop. (effectively, one photo for each eye, to combat the extremely shallow DoF at 3.5x) The Mortein Fast Knockdown was out. A moment of silence if you please. At Voltaire’s home planet, Sydney South, NSW.
