  • I wish to rise from ruins. / Gather broken pieces, / Shards and shreds long cast off as useless / And create one form worth standing for. / I will rise from rubble / For one great stand / One grand shine. In my true essence / I wish to rise unscathed by imagery and voices / That encourage the lying down of hope. / . / . / . / Poem by F. Magdalene Austin / Copyright © 2007 F. Magdalene

  • Out of ashes, new beginnings, / Out of fire comes new power, / Out of darkness, new day dawning, / Phoenix help me in this trying hour. / DJ Conway Beginning with Apophysis to make the flames and adding a photo of a tree stump that resembled a ‘phoenix’ to me, adding the words and voila…my interpretation of a phoenix rising from the ashes… / My name, Tammy, means palm tree and in Greek the word for phoenix is the same as for palm tree. Legend says that when the phoenix reached a thousand years old, it flew to a special place and built a funeral nest of sweet smalling woods and resins in a tall palm tree, when the nest was set ablaze by the force of the Sun, the phoenix stayed in the nest and was destroyed. After nine days, a new phoenix rose from the ashes. Phoenix Rising by Annihilator

  • Looking south along the beach at Surfers after a quick storm had passed through. Burleigh’s almost hidden by mist(can just make it out)29/11/08

  • Similar to another pic I took – Orange – but this boat had a more pronounced prow. This is taken from about 1 foot from the boat – the wide angle (18mm) really eggagerates perspective. This is an HDR – made by blending 3 images in order to retain shadow and highlight detail. I’ve attempted to keep it exactly the way I remember seeing it. The colours of the boat are the same colours as my national flag – not sure if this is done by the fishermen for patriotic reasons or so that the coast gaurd can easily identify them – I hope it’s the former :-) Nikon D80 / 18mm @ f/8 / Shutter speeds – 3 shots at 1/8; 1/30; 1/125

  • Acrylic on canvas. /

  • I don’t have the words to say how I feel about all the horrors of the bushfires in Victoria that have been and are still being afflicted not only on the people who live there but also the animals except that my heart aches and sometimes I can’t stop the tears in my eyes from falling … especially especially for all the animals who lived there that had no chance to escape … when I designed this fractal what I saw were koalas rising above the devastation below … there must be a heaven for these poor creatures .. little angel koalas … please please open your heart and do whatever you can to help our animal cousins —Wildlife-Appeal Profile —Wildlife-Appeal RB Group —Wildlife-Appeal Bubblesite —- All profits from the sale of this work will be donated to Wildlife Appeal. —- work done in Sterling2 with post work in PaintShopPro and Gimp. • The hosts of Exceptional Ekphrasis, adgray, chookas, skik and Tim Everding have graciously asked that this artwork be used as their avatar and I am truly honored to re-submit it with DJ Conway’s words also rising like the Phoenix… Out of ashes, new beginnings / Out of fire comes new power / Out of darkness, new day dawning / Phoenix help me in this trying hour. DJ Conway May these words resonate with those in Victoria, Australia who have been victim to the bushfires…
