After watching a documentary on television about the Cuyabeno some years ago, I decided that this was a place that I would love to visit. So I did. I booked a 10 day tour with Ecomontes Tours in Quito and I was on my way. The Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve is a protected area of rainforest conserving its wildlife and provides a sanctuary in which the traditional Siona, Secoya and Cofan Indians can lead their customary way of life. There are several lakes and swamps in the Cuyabeno Reserve and the wildlife is amazing. Much of the reserve remains pristine. There are freshwater dolphins, manatees, caiman and anaconda. Monkeys abound and the bird life is prolific – toucans, macaws, kingfishers and more. This photo of the local people in their motorised dug out canoe was taken on the Rio Largarto, deep into Amazonas, Peru on one side of the river, Ecuador on the other. It looks like they are moving house.

CARNIVAL , This work was inspired by the Rio Carnival it is an original piece from my imagination. authors note: I have used an experimental brush technique in the costume that seems to obscure her face, her pouting lips are all that is revealed.
