I met a fellow RedBubbler, Adam Mattel yesterday and we did a photo shoot together. It was a very enjoyable morning and a pleasure to meet a member that lives nearby. This is one the images captured along the Susquehanna river at Harrisburg, PA. This site was settled due to the founder Harris operating a ferry across the river. This has been my most popular image to date. It has been viewed over 900 times and is a favorite for 46 members of RB.

This is one of the many bridges crossing the Susquehanna River at Harrisburg, PA. The Susquehanna is nearly one mile wide at places near Harrisburg PA. This section of the river was picked by John Harris to establish a ferry operation, thus founding Harrisburg.

Big Bend National Park – 12” x 16” Watercolor on 140# Arches CP. My reference was from a photo I took on a 3-day rafting trip down the Rio Grande. Our campsite was just to the left. This is the beginning of Santa Helena Canyon which becomes deeper and deeper the further along you float going from 800 feet to 1,500 feet at exit.

Rio 2009 – as featured in Issue 57 of Advanced Photoshop Magazine! I went head to head with another artist, after being given the same basic model shot to work with. This was the outcome for me! You can see both of our work in this issue, along with a simplified tutorial on how I achieved this look. The reason this is called “Rio 2009” – is because of my original inspiration. Remember that classic 80’s album by Duran Duran called Rio, with the fantastic Patrick Nagel artwork on the cover? The raven haired beauty with the ‘cherry ice cream smile’ – who looked exotic and edgy, with that supermodel gleam? Well I wanted to update that picture with a fresh approach. No longer trapped in the graphic art lines of Nagel, Rio has broken free, and is a bit more exotic and fierce now that it is 2009! I love blending cultural styles and colors, and this piece was a real treat to work because of that!

Chimney Rock and the Ghost Ranch are probably going to be a recurring theme in this stage of my photographic journey. It is very hard to find a landscape location in New Mexico with more context. Perhaps even in all the American southwest. So, another entry, this one taken with a Pentax 645 medium format film camera. I’ve had this camera since February 2009 and have quite a bit of cash and sweat equity invested in it. I’ve lugged it and its lenses and flash attachment over many, many miles of desert terrain across four states and have spent a small fortune on film and processing and prints and scans, not to mention buying my own film scanner. And this is it, the one image that pleases me from the whole lot. To say that my medium format experiment is not going well is an understatement; however, this one shows me what might be if I can relearn the craft of film photography before it bankrupts me. And If there is to be just one, I am happy it occurred at Ghost Ranch. Pentax 645, Velvia 50 film, Pentax 45mm lens, settings not recorded.
