Meet our own Heather Rinehart / of Fine Art Digital Painters Group...

Meet our own Heather Rinehart / of Fine Art Digital Painters Group Thank you Heather for sharing your insights, your philosophy on digital painting, and your art with Fine Art Digital Painters Group. / 1. Where are you from? Can you tell us a little about yourself? / I was born and raised in Maryland, USA. I received my first set of acrylic paints at age eight, / have been painting ever since. After high school, I moved to Philadelphia to study animation and graphic design, but soon rekindled my passion for painting. I love the arts and culture scene in Philadelphia, so my husband and I decided to put down new roots and grow our family here. I enjoy sharing art with my children, and am thrilled to see it is already an important part of their lives. We spend our days drawing, reading, telling stories, and no one leaves the house without a sketch book. / 2. What goals do you have for the Fine Art Digital Painters Group? / I would love for this group to be a part of dispelling the notion that digital painting is not true art. Although there are many ways to create digital art, the artists in our group use the same creative process as if the work were done using traditional methods, and it shows. Creating in this medium, whether the work is realism or abstract, landscapes or portraiture, is a powerful testament to the validity of digital painting. We ought to be able to open people’s eyes to the talent that is arising in this new medium. I am thrilled to be part of a group working toward this goal. 3. Describe that moment when you realized that it was time to share your art with others. I don’t remember the first time my artist’s ego was stroked, but I’ve felt the need to share my creations since I was a child. :) 4. What first inspired you to try Digital Painting? What Painting Program do you prefer? / I first tried digital painting in college, and loved it then. I decided to finally buy my own equipment about a year ago. With small children running around, I am not able to leave my paints lying about, so a digital painting program seemed to be a good solution. / In my opinion, Corel Painter is the most intuitive program available, and is the best choice for an artist looking for the “feel” of traditional materials. 5. What is your favorite technique….......watercolor, oils, pencil, etc / I love them all, but I most often use the oil brushes. Watercolor is one thing I just can’t seem to get the hang of, on paper or the computer. 6. How long have you been creating Digital Paintings? / I have created the bulk of my digital paintings within the last year, though I have dabbled in this type of work for about ten years. 7. What are/have been your favorite learning resources? / I am mostly self-taught. I love studying art history, and from time to time I will read a book or article on technique. But when all is said and done, I learn the most from the mistakes I have made . . . over and over and over again. 8. What do you feel drawn to paint? What inspires you? / I love to paint nature. Animals and children are a source of never-ending inspiration for me. I also love to paint the human figure . . . it is always a challenge. Oh, and I do occasionally draw a cartoonish character once in a while :) 9. What would you like to say to inspire other Digital Painters? / An artist’s craft is his chance to elicit emotion and passion from a person’s soul. So let it flow from your heart . . . you never know what a viewer’s reaction will be. 10. Which pieces you have created are you the most proud of? / I like to tell a story with my work. But I like the story to be told by the viewer, so I keep it vague. The pieces that I think accomplish this most effectively are Seek, Tiptoe, and Breeze. As far as technical aspects, I am most proud of Flattering the Crow, and Impending Harvest.*
