I brought the cowboy, moon, trees and pond together just for fun. There’s a certain feeling a cowboy has when he is in the wilderness with just his horse and the sounds of crickets, a light breeze and a slow moving stream.

Mmmmmmm, salt….. / Bolivia’s Salar de Uyuni – one of the more surreal cycling experiences. There’s about 5000 square kilometers of this stuff. The only regret I have about this trip was that I didn’t try to ride clean across it – a two day effort by all accounts. Maybe next time.

I am First & Foremost a Writer but I do have some skills in other genres of art. (Gives me a great appreciation of those works that excel way beyond my humble offerings!) This is one of my paintings I made a few years ago now / (about 20 lol) / It reminds me of my favourite ride told in / A yarn for you – Karimba’s Ride- In my youth I had ridden trail horses so many times up a bush track like this (up & down Mt Olinda from Kilsyth, all around Beechworth & over the Bunyip Ridge), that when I stopped riding [& became “a responsible wife & mother” for everyone else] I missed it so much I had to paint it. This is a mixture of acrylic poster paints & left over house paint on a fine piece of old Masonite [you know the kind from the bottom of an old drawer …. cos that’s where I got it from lol] So come for a ride with me? Dewey and Lewey are Haflinger ponies a breed that originated in Austria. Kind tempered, sturdy and workmanlike they have been described as ” a prince in front, a peasant behind” .

I wanted to create something that conveyed what I was thinking when when my mind wanders. This happens when I’m in meetings with people with monotoned voices droning on about mood boards and focus groups. If I could make a painting of how I feel and where I would love to be right now, this would be it. I hope you like it. Framed Print / Canon 5D, 17-40mm at 17mm (cropped), f/20, 1/200 sec, ISO 100. A young Amish couple was actually enjoying themselves in an open buggy while the snow was falling like crazy. He was driving while she held the umbrella over their heads. The wool blanket covering their legs was turning white as the snowflakes were accumulating on their laps. She was laughing heartily as they passed by at a quick trot. Behind the buggy, you may notice the roof of the “Forgotten Farmhouse”, covered in snow. This photo was just taken last night, hand-held with a Canon EOS 10D camera body using a Canon EF 35-350mm f/3.5-5.6L zoom lens set to 35mm. The shutter speed was 1/180th of a second at f/9.5.
