A simple, yet magical astronomical phenomina. When there is a very thin crecent moon, the earth reflecets enough light to illuminate the dark part of the moon just a little. This earth shine makes the grey disc of the moon visible along size the sliver of light. Add a deep purple sky and a bit of prom ridge line and I reckon you have a pretty amazing sight.
I find good vertical panoramas quite hard, just occasionally though in the forest a good one presents itself. Pine Valley – Tasmania in the rain.

From the PX3 awarded series – ORDER:SQUAMATA / / Rough Scaled Python (Morelia carinata) is possibly the rarest snake in Australia. Only discovered in 1976, this is the only python species to have keeled or ‘rough’ scales, hence its common name. Endemic to northern Western Australia. / / ©2008 Shannon Plummer. This is actually a close-up of a wet red table cloth with wrinkles. (Aftermath of doing shots of water being poured on an apple.) I shot it in a dark room with the camera set on a long exposure, then I fire a flash low from the left. MY BUBBLESITE

So many times you see a SIGN posted where someone has changed the wording on it by crossing them out or changing the letters. This was a sign in an outhouse at a wildlife area parking lot…. CAN YOU figure out what word I removed and which one I moved on this sign in Photoshop to read the way it is now? / Please do not deface property, take a picture and then do it at home! I thought I would be able to move on to spring flowers, or at least something less wintry, but winter doesn’t want to let go of Colorado, not yet. We’re having a major blizzard here right now, and it will probably look like this at the fox hole this weekend again. This picture was taken on March 28, 2009, in the greenbelt area in Wheat Ridge, Colorado / Nikon D80, 70-300 mm lens / f/7.1, 1/640 sec, ISO 400, focal length 300 mm

“Wallaces Hut and snow – Victorian High Country” Not far from Falls Creek is Wallace’s Hut – the oldest remaining cattlemen’s hut in the Victorian high country. Built in 1889 the hut is in fact celebrating 120 years this year. / It had been used by stockmen while moving cattle up to the high plains for grazing and then down again before the Winter snows. Autumn is a magical time to visit the high country and during our recent visit we managed to get to Wallace’s Hut. Due to recent snow falls we had to carefully pick our way up the walking track through a few patches of snow. On arrival we found the hut surrounded by beautiful twisting snow gums, colourful bark and sprinklings of snow. Very picturesque. Depending on conditions (ie outside of Winter or heavy snows), the hut can be reached by road a few kms from Falls Creek and then on foot (less than 1 km) from the Bogong High Plains Rd. The Bald River and parts of its watershed are now part of the Bald River Gorge Wilderness, designated as a wilderness area by the U.S. Forest Service in 1984. It is a tributary of the Tellico River located in the Cherokee National Forest south of the Great Smoky Mountain N.P. Bald River Falls is regarded as the most impressive and scenic waterfalls in East Tennessee. According to the water level and, angle that it was shot from, the falls can appear tall or short and wide. It is about 90 ft. high, and caution should be used when exploreing it as several have been injured or died here. Bald River is a wild stream but the Tellico River is stocked with trout April thru September and is renowned for its trout fishing. It is located a short drive off the Cherohala Skyway in Monroe County Tn. To find it drive about 5 an 1/4 miles east of Tellico Plains on SR 165 and turn right onto Tellico River Road just past Oosterneck pullout and drive about another 6 miles. Latitude: 35-19’27’’ N Longitude: 084-10’38’’ W. It is well worth the drive except during a dry spell. Canon Rebel XTi
Wiley at the top of Scotty’s Ridge, one of our favorite hiking trails. This ridge overlooks the town of Jackson, the trailhead is literally across the street from my condo. Every day when I wake up and take Wiley out, I express my appreciation to the universe for landing me here in this wonderful place! It comes with special challenges for me sometimes but I wouldn’t change a thing. :o) Taken July 4th, 2009.
