Rice fields in northern Vietnam. The photograph was taken about 2km from the mountain town of Sapa. This young hill-tribe girl was proud to show us around.

The rice terraces of Long Ji. This shot was taken from the tracks between the lookouts above Pingan. The rice was just getting ripe so there are touches of gold in the fields.

This is a painting i had done five years back using water soluble pastels.I seldom name my own paintings, they get their names from my family when they are making some silly reference to them like, ‘Rice Paddy Girl’ .I think i should stick with her real name as silly as it sounds.

I have friends practically all over the world. I am so proud to call each of you friend and so thankful for you all. I just wanted to share this with many of you as I know you probably never get to see anything like this. This is a rice field that was growning out in Arkansas this summer. I wished my 350D had see-through capability. Now the mountains that beseige this spectacular city make this shot look like it’s in a bowl. It costed us HKD15 to get on the platform to get this view. In May of 2008, my husband, Homer, traveled back to Vietnam on a journey of healing and forgiveness. During one of his two combat missions to Vietnam in the sixties, Homer killed a young North Vietnamese Medic, Hoang Ngoc Dam. This act has haunted Homer for over 35 years as the battles of war haunt all who experience it. Dam’s family, in an act of incredible generosity of spirit, invited Homer to Vietnam to meet them and personally participate in the return of Dam’s remains to his village for burial. This photograph was taken by Homer on an early morning train from Nam Dinh to Quy Nhuon. “Not to forgive is to be imprisoned by the past, by old grievances that do not permit life to proceed with new business. Ifugao Girl – Northern Luzon, Philippines. The Ifugao People are the predominant ethnic group in this part of Northern Luzon, Philippines. Their incredible rice terraces are very, very old. Many anthropologists consider these terraces to be among mankind’s greatest achievements. They are located at Banaue, about 12 hours north of Manila.
